Hesse-Darmstadt fusilier green, 1809
« on: February 04, 2023, 09:32:42 PM »
Hello there,

What colour green have people used for the fusiliers in H-D units in the 1809 campaign?

I'm doing Garder's brigade in 15/18mm. I mostly use Vallejo, Humbrol, Howard Hues, or craft paints, but all suggestions welcome, in enamels or acrylics.

Many thanks.

Mine I painted basic Pine Green.  Any mix of blue, green, and a little black as long as it doesn’t get too “broken” will be as historically accurate a guess as anything else.  It’s not like uniforms were dyed with any level of precision even within the same lot at the time.  Even brand new uniforms would certainly vary in shade.

Appreciate that good advice!! Thanks.

I made a few tests today of five different paints. Howard Hues Dragoon Green is looking very good, though it requires ferocious mixing. Might cut it a bit with white for the 15/18mm chaps' scale, as it is pretty dark. Humbrol MC7 runs the other way and might need a little black to tone it down.

Anyone else have ideas I'd love to hear them!
