The Sabretache military society published recently a book entitled "L'armée de la Commune". Only the first part of this work has been released yet but it's full of illustrations and period photos.
"The enemy? His sense of duty was no less than yours, I deem. You wonder what his name is, where he came from. And if he was really evil at heart. What lies or threats led him on this long march from home. If he would not rather have stayed there ... in peace. War will make corpses of us all."

The volunteers of the Seine or the Seine et Oise are made up of guards (many former officers) who are strongly hostile to the communard movement.

The uniform given is close to the uniforms of national guards, but with a white stripe on the kepi differentiating them from their enemies; on May 11, 1871, this white stripe will be replaced by a light blue band, more visible and avoiding mistakes. A tricolor armband is worn on the arm, according to Raffet's testimony.
