Elf Sorceress
« on: 30 October 2009, 03:06:03 AM »
Been on a bit of a fantasy kick here lately, so I decided to paint this figure next.  She had a big sword that I just wasn't fond of so I clipped it off and turned it into a wand.  I really tried to improve my painting skills so I spent a bit more time on fleshtones and trying to make everything smoother.  Hope you like it.

The mini is from Reaper.

She reminds me of Shakira in the "She Wolf" video.

Check it out if you haven't seen the vid!

Great mini by the way, I like the wand, cool flame effects...

Lovely mini and great paint job! I agree about the sword - bit OTT!

I'm currently assembling a Wood Elf army using old Citadel minis bought from Ebay - I think this sorceress would go rather well - did you buy her through Reaper or are there any stockists in the UK?

Thanks guys!

@Greywolf - Those skin tones look really good to me.  :)

But I am not to sure about the base ???

Yeah, I'm not all that fond of it either.  You can't really see it in this picture, but I was trying to give it a wet dungeon floor effect.  I painted a reflection of the wand off the floor and a little bit of her clothing, but it kinda gets washed out in this picture (along with the highlights on her cloak).  :(

@Thantsants - I'm not sure where you can buy Reaper in the UK.  Sorry.  I'm lucky enough to live about 15 minutes from Reaper so I can go in on the weekends and buy them at their store.  :D  As for making a Wood Elf army, I kind of like the Elves from this site if you want to check them out.

I like the eyes and the wand conversion, and it's overall well-executed.

To make it better:
-Your color transitions could stand to be smoother.
-Darklining - particularly at the fingers and where the face meets the hair is where I notice this would help.
-Pull your highlights closer to white / increase the contrast.  The hair is where I see this would help in particular.

Very nicely done.

She´s a cutie! Werner Klocke sculpt, I suppose... Great choice of colours and softly blended flesh - very nice!

That could get expensive!

Is it true Reaper sells paint jars full of their little mixer-skulls, but only direct from their store? A whole batch of 28mm skulls would be useful, and I wouldn't have to wait until I'd finished another bottle of Reaper paint!

It usually is when I go to the store, but I don't make it over there that often.
