StuH 42
« on: 27 April 2023, 05:05:19 PM »
Was in the process of building another scratch built house and a Stug kit at the same time and could not resist a quick diorama. The Stug III is of Stug brigade 341 with field modified schurzen and manlet debris guard. It was knocked out at 12 La Gare, Le Val-Saint-Pere,Normandy on the 31st of July 1944 while backing into the unfortunate house.

Oh forgot to mention everything is going to get reused as its not permanent. The foam card wall will be joined up to complete a ruined house. The base will be kept for another dio or troops on parade and the wooden plinth is not glued on so will appear again at another dio near you. The Stug gets added to my Normandy German forces. All in 1/56 scale for Bolt Action.

Came across this then and now link : https://www.flickr.com/photos/82596826@N03/36826875626/in/dateposted

That's a very interesting version of the Stug. I don't think I have ever seen that version before.

Basically used for close infantry support, thus the mobile 10.5cm field artillery. Stug Brigade 341 did a lot of adhoc field modifications as well.

Looks good.  While I love me some StuH42's --- what's the mesh/thing around the gun mantlet?  That I don't recognize.

.

If you look at the pictures of Brigade 341 on the net they have chicken wire or similar in that location as apparently crap got stuck in that area very easily. If you look closely at the black and white picture you can see it but its a bit blurred.

Also used to hold foliage for camouflage, which is just visible on the original photograph.

Yep spot on. I have also found out that the debris guard was made from metal sheet or in some cases wood :o
