Cheap pink styrofoam in the UK
« on: November 01, 2009, 05:02:52 PM »
By way of an update, when I was making my F&IW board a few weeks ago, I reported that B&Q were selling an amazingly cheap 4-pack of pink styrofoam boards (ea. 1200mm x 500mm x 50mm) for a paltry 20 quid.

The bad news is they are no longer selling these packs  :'(

The GOOD NEWS is that they are now selling individual boards at a ludicrous £3.25 each!

This is amazingly cheap when you consider that various scallywags on eBay are selling small squares of the stuff for two or three times that price.

Take for example the following auction, which is probably just cut up pieces of the very same boards - equivalent price: around £30.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BIGDENSE-PINK-MODELLING-FOAM-SCENERY-TERRAIN-WARGAMING_W0QQitemZ170401152536QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Toys_Wargames_RL?hash=item27acb33e18

So... £30 on eBay for some cut-up pieces.
Or whole sheets in B&Q for 3 quid a time.
You decide  ;)

Terrain modellers of Britain - cock a snook at these profiteering foam barons.
Pop round to B&Q while stocks last.

No problem.

They're sold as 'space boards' by the way - designed for loft insulation. So that's the aisle you'll find them on.
Not that I can guarantee every branch of B&Q carries them. But I got a couple yesterday at the Crawley, Sussex, branch - which is a medium-sized shed outlet, not one of the huge depots. And they had a stack of them.

Interestingly, I noticed from a post over on GWP that Focus DIY sell the same product as well at £24 a pack, and currently have a 'buy one pack get a second pack free' offer. The only problem is (having looked on Focus's website) it doesn't actually tell you how many sheets you get in a pack!

If it's four sheets, like the original B&Q packs, then that means you can get 8 sheets of the stuff at £3 each, which is even more ludicrously cheap than B&Q.

If there's only two or three sheets in a pack though, then B&Q still looks like the best bet.

Either way - get 'em while they're hot...  ;D ;)
