If you want 1/50, then Promod do a variety of Bedford R, but they aren't cheap. They are very attractive and quite simple kits though.

If you can cope with a little smaller you can find the old Dinky Bedford Rs on ebay. They are around the 1/60 mark.

Personally' I'd look at any suitably scaled bit of US WW2 kit. Belgium had quite a lot of ex US kit at the time.

I got these Jeeps and Citroen Trucks for decent prices on Evil-bay.  No idea if the U23 trucks were really used in the Congo but they are the right era and a reasonable size.  There is also a sort of GMC truck I have recently found.  I've ordered a couple but they haven't arrived yet.

I have posted links here on my blog. The links are for the UK but I imagine everything is available in Europe.

The GMC is actually a Soviet Ural 4320 made by Technopark. Unlikely to have popped up in the Congo circa 1960.  Good news is it 1/56.

Solido do a range of GMCs and Studebakers that can usually be found cheap second hand.

Thanks Carlos.  Oh well, they might have to get used for another project then.

Cheers for the suggestion of Solidio.  I'll check them out.  I thought about getting an M8 Greyhound and/or a White Scout car.  I think Warlord or maybe others do kits for them.  I have the Empress Ferret kit to make already.  A couple of Swedish SKPF armoured trucks might be nice later if I do some UN troops.  I think I found somewhere that does a 3D print of those but have misplaced the link.

If you can find them, then Tamiya does/did an M8 Greyhound in 1/48. It's a fairly simple kit albeit well detailed and curiously can be found cheaper than a diecast, given you can find one.

Annoyingly Tamiya seem to have withdrawn the moulds for a lot of their 1/48 range, whether that's temporary or permanent I have no idea. They also do useful vehicles like jeeps, GMCs and Studebakers. Much better quality than the stuff Warlord serves up.

Thanks.  All advice appreciated.  I'm not especially skilled or patient when it comes to building kits, so die-cast has the virtue of being pre-built.  Having said that, for small numbers it's not too much of an issue.

My pleasure. The Tamiya kits are so well engineered, they almost build themselves. Actually, given the time I've spent over the years, filing, scraping, puttying, fettling and detailing resin kits, they present as an easier option at times.

They look great.

I ordered a book from Redoubt (now owned by Grubby) months ago, never got anything after the initial confirmation email.  He's ignored all my attempts at communication by email, on all the different sites contact pages, and by phone.  PayPal cancelled my complaint and refused to re-open it too.   So, that was a lesson on two counts.
