The Artifact
« on: August 02, 2023, 07:45:02 AM »
Deep in the Carpathian Mountains OSS Sentinal SFC Schist leads a mission to recover an artifact from an abandoned bunker complex. Acting on information gathered during a routine interrogation the artifact should be a critical find toward ending the forever war.  He is supported by two Jedburgh teams, Team Elwood under Sergeant Smith and Team Jake under Sergeant Jones.

Not disclosed in the interrogation  was the actual nature of the artifact and more importantly that the complex was swarming with ost front zeds.

SFC Schist wades into the first line of zombies tommygun blazing.

Team Jake opens up with the full weight of fire dropping four of the reanimated corpses, finishing only two of them.

The undead crave the high fat and protein of living brain tissue.

And Team Jake is no more.

Team Elwood secures the right flank while closing on the bunker complex.

Meanwhile SFC Schist takes care of business and runs the old "Hey diddle diddle, straight up the middle".

Jumping to the roof of the bunker SFC Schist scans the burned out interior. The yellow eyes of a jäegerhund stare back at him. As the beast jumps up at the grizzled vet, SFC Schist dumps a full magazine of expanding dumdum rounds into its chest and it slumps back dead.

A subsequent search of the bunkers reveals that the "artifact" in question could only have been this jäegerhund, now reverted back to its human form, albeit shredded to raw meat and very dead.  SFC Schist debates reinterrogating the source upon his return to GHQ, and realizes maybe there never was an artifact. Hell maybe there was never even a source, just a pissed off jäegerhund that needed put down. Angry at the though of possibly being played and losing a good team for a lousy weredog he determined he'd have a personal discussion with "Wild Bill" upon their return. With that he gave SGT Smith the signal to move out, it was going to be a long walk back to the extraction point.
"welcome to the world of cascading failure"

Capt Shanks, this sounds like a very fun encounter!!! I love the B&W pics, gives it a really old school eerie feeling, very theatrical.
