Bantry Bay Project 1:700 Scenery & Models Build
« on: 19 August 2023, 07:02:45 AM »
As part of a game project I am working on I have put a post together looking at the build process for my Bantry Bay Cliffs and the models selected for my French Troop Transports.

The cliffs were a bit of a 'proof of concept' build to construct them generically for other coastal scenarios I have in mind together with facilitating the addition of coastal forts and batteries, whilst keeping the basing less conspicuous.

Likewise the models were designed and selected to capture the look of the commandeered French India merchantmen that were used in the expedition in 1796.

In the next post I will show these models completed and rigged.

I can't picture what you are envisioning for the transports, but am looking forward to seeing the results...

Those cliffs turned out great!  Will you be pinning the structures on the top, or what kind of removable option are you looking at for them to keep them interchangeable?
If my wife asks, I only spent half as much as I wanted to...

Hi Chaps,
Thanks for your comments.

Kelly - I haven’t decided entirely on my plans for the added structures. My thinking is that I will keep a selection of large and small forts, Martello, other small buildings and gun emplacements available to be placed as and when required, and then a few purpose built sections of coastal hamlets, jetties and moles that will have all the structures built into the piece, complete with gardens and outside areas to create the impression of a small village or the sea facing areas of a much larger town.

In 1:700 its the model ships that should, in my opinion, take centre stage on the table and I want to keep land based terrain items to a minimum to give the impression of narrow waters but not take away anything from the naval models and the fact that this is a game about the ships.

Likewise the terrain that is represented should be a key part of the scenario that impacts on movement or could be a target of attack.

Looks great, gives me an idea for WWII stuff, and also for a tiny project I have with a very small coastal battery, in this case Warlord Epic scale.
