Force on Force - first games
« on: September 20, 2023, 07:20:21 AM »
Ok, I have the RB, the supplements that I need for this (Bush Wars and Enduring Freedom) and have bought in a bunch of D8/10/12s.

I've downloaded the Simplified version of the rules as an aid memoir and have even bought in some painted reinforcements for the Insurgents.

I'm planning on running the first couple of scenarios from the rulebook as intro games to get a feel of FoF before branching out into the supplements.

Any hints/tips, do's/don'ts that I should be aware of? Many thanks

Force on force is a great set of rules that i really enjoy.

You will need some form of tokens to mark, who is lightly wounded and who was wounded this turn. And all the other game effects. Because you will get those mixed up once the bullets start flying.

Also

The scenarios are very much not balanced. So you need to have a mindset where you do the best you can with what you can. Some scenarios are next to unwinable for allied forces others for insurgents.

But still very fun and challenging.

Ahh, I didn't know that. That's fine.

Looking at the scenarios, I don't have all the figures that are required so I'll have to try to trim some of them down to suit

That's great, thanks.

I'll have a proper look at that thread. I have Rhodesians in 15mm and more generic African forces in 28mm

Been a while since I played FoF but IIRC we had a lot of fun. Fog of War cards weren't easy to source so we worked out a grid for the pages they were printed on and then diced for the result. I've always enjoyed Random Event/Encounters and that certainly added to a good game. The counters are a splendid Idea, I found some with the Firing, Overwatch etc etc and were really useful. I was in a situation where I was time poor so I'd just paint enough figures including reinforcements for the scenario chosen, mainly the smaller ones I must admit but as time went on the collection grew to cover most scenarios in whichever book.
Hope this helps James

Thanks JB!

And the idea about the Fog of War grid is inspired, I'll adopt that.

Most of the Lardies' Chain of Command tokens should be useable for this.

Best, j
