Back of Beyond Lamasery
« on: October 15, 2023, 05:40:58 AM »
I have been wanting a Lamasery for my monks in Central Asia/China/Manchuria for quite some time.

I figure that they deserve it - Dixon "pumpkin heads" and I love them dearly (Inspired by the great Dalai Soapy)

This is the proposed lay out.

My plan is for the lamasery to be rustic and fortified rather than highly decorated. The roof line will be inspired by Paul's (Overlord's) build in the last Build Something Contest

Got to kick at the darkness till it bleeds daylight.

Thanks fellas. The initial fortifications are under construction. Here is the stairs to the crenelated roof (no crenelations yet) and structure gluing.

You can pretty much see what this portion will look like now.

Doors and lots of stone work to do. Gate and tower next.

The fiddly stonework part. This is going slower than I would prefer as you must let the glue set after a couple of courses or risk a major screw up and redoing large portions.

I had hoped to have finished this portion this weekend but it is not to be  :?

More progress. The stone work on the front wall is complete except for the tops of the crenalations and I still need to get door handles made.

I also have started the front tower.

There is lots more cork masonry to go and the daunting task of the mountain and cliff face. I need more cork!

The results are remarkable, however it sure looks time consuming.

Impressive.

If I could paint as quickly as you can build I'd switch to armies.   ;)

Your build is ticking along nicely, it seems like you will have a splendid piece of scenery at the end.

I'm looking forward to seeing the final results.

Thanks fellas! I am continuing to make progress. The tower is coming to completion

This is the fortified entrance of the lamasery as it stands now. I have started the gate but no pic as of yet

I will have to think about the terrain yet but I have most of the cork (I think.....). Malcolm I wish that I could make more progress on the minis painting! Blast! I am falling behind!
