Dark Age non combatant manufacturers?
« on: 26 October 2023, 07:45:08 AM »
Anyone know a good source of 28mm dark age women and children? As well as general villager types for Norse or anglo Saxons.

Gripping Beast, 1st Corps, Foundry.  Black Tree Design had some good ones (under Feudal miniatures - also have some good monks).  I had been tempted, but never bought Nordvolk villagers from Westwind.  I am sure some of the Footsore Baron's Wars villagers could work.

Ethelred, thanks for the reminder about 1st Corps. Since they stopped being a feature on the UK show circuit I have pretty much forgotten about them. I might need to buy some of their "massacred monks"!

There’s also the Fireforge peasants - I realise they’re fantasy so their clothes may be incorrect (I’m sure someone here will have a more informed view of what’s wrong  lol ) but they are plastic and easy to convert and kitbash.

Perry has some nice unarmed pilgrims and clergy in their crusades range that would also work for late 11th C England. They’re slight compared to most other 28mm ranges, but in the case of non-combatants I think that works well.

Have to second footsore- a few of the village characters are perhaps on the cartoonish side but that’s part of the charm :) besides, they have a decent range of options so I sure there’s something useful in there.

You can also repurpose figures from other eras such as these Warlord Games Celtic civilians (I converted the same pack to add some street characters for modern Afghanistan!)

Crucible Crush 1066 range has a few civilian packs:
Peasant Villagers

Medieval Mule Train

Highborn Ladies

Peasant Levy

Here's a link to the store: link. I think Northstar might carry the range if you are looking for a UK supplier.
