This coming year is my 40th anniversary of starting gaming, so I plan a few projects.

The Ziggurut of Doom from the first Warhammer box - with Conquistadores and Aztecs

Finishing my skirmish Book for 16thC Scotland covering the Marian Civil War / Gordon Forbes Feud and a few other fights, - Corrichie, Tillyangus, Craibstone, Corgarff and Glenlivet and a what if between James IV and the Earls of Huntly and Errol.

Patriots Rebellion in Canada and the Battle of the Windmill

28mm Silmarillion game involving Glaurung

Brilliant idea! Presumably the Aztecs will be the defenders?

I'm focusing on ECW skirmish courtesy of Bloody Miniatures with diversions to keep my interest from wandering.  So Blood Red Skies Korean War will make it to the painting table along with the final two units of Celts for To the Strongest.

Pre dreadnoughts are happening.   I've wanted to do them for 40 plus years because of a certain P.Hague and its time.  The great Naval war of 1898 will happen.  I just need to figure out the scale.  Which is likely to be both 1/2400 and 1/1200!,

After that I need to finish my ancestry tree and get it printed.

Emir, I look forward to this especially.

As to my plan(s)? The same as the last fifty plus years i.e. paint all the outstanding & play with the same.
Despite BIG strides towards reducing the outstanding, I have yet to achieve the hoped for result. :-[

My big relatively new project for 2024 is Sci-Fi miniatures using Xenos Rampant rules. I've begun collecting and painting stuff up these last two months of the year, but next year will be when I kick it into warp speed. I've got a friend who has lots of Sci-Fi minis collected and I will likely use some of his stuff when we get in our first few games. My goal is to have a half dozen or so of my own factions ready by the midpoint of the year, though.

Here's a look at the Bronze Legion:

And some Terminators for a Machines force:

What else? I will continue to run games for the post-apocalyptic skirmish campaign I hosting for our Sunday evening gaming group. I have run five games so far, but I hope to pick up the pace and do them more often in 2024.

I'll continue to play Saga with the local guys and in tournaments at a few conventions, but those are my two main goals for next year.

Quite a lot of projects I would like to complete

More 20mm ww2, 28mm Napoleonic and 28mm medieval, plus a few ancients.

Even better! The wrathful German leader should have a pet monkey.

My main hope for 2024 is to actually retire.  However, that is currently scheduled for next December, so it won’t help much with time until 2025.

In the wargames hobby realm, though, the big dream for 2024 is to participate in a campaign.  There are several possibilities for that, though the chief ones are an 18th century imagi-nations thing or some sort of fantasy.  My son has been working on schemes for the latter, to be played with the extensive collection of 1/72 DBA/HotT armies we already have painted, so I rate that as the most likely to occur.

I need to purge the lead mountain, and avoid starting any new projects other than those already represented in the hoard.  Of things already in progress, I particularly want to get enough 54mm fantasy together to stage a game (sorry to hear you decided not to continue yours, Tikitang…), and, at the other end of the scale spectrum, finish enough of the 6mm fantasy expansion I started in 2023 to justify buying another army or two.  I also want to cast with my vintage mold collection and get a solid start on a 19th century toy soldier game (either Franco-Prussian or imagi-nations) using ~40mm Schneider semi-flats.

My plans for 2024 are quite manageable (I hope):

- Paint my 2 forces for Legions Imperialis
- Finalize my plans for a spaceship game, and decide on what rules to use and purchase miniatures for it
- Finalize my plans for a 6mm WW2 North Africa project, either that or I'll archive the project and miniatures
- I definitely want to play more games than this year
- Don't overbuy miniatures that I don't really know what to do with

Well, I note lots of good intentions above not to acquire any more miniatures, but I’m going to continue embracing being the unfocused butterfly that I am. I’ll continue trying not to actually buy too much new except to support my FLGS. I’ll continue trying to use parts of the lead and grey pile to swap for things that best align with my current collections (which I have been doing pretty successfully through my bazaar of obscurities page - shameless plug  https://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=143629.msg1833409#msg1833409 and Facebook). Which has kind of become a bit of a hobby in itself, as something fun to do late at night when you’re tired after work, and when I would never paint anyway.

I am going to try though at getting in more games. I’ve been managing to get in a couple a month at my FLGS friend. But they tend to be stretches of a few weeks where it doesn’t work out. The most likely games of focus will be Kings of War, Age of Sigmar, Team Yankee, Dead Zone and Xenos Rampant. But I’m intensely relaxed about playing with unpainted miniatures or indeed other people’s miniatures, and so I suspect there will be another insane range of systems tried out.

I will be breaking that up with board games with the school dads, as that needs much less prep than wargames. I’m talking things like Dominion and Rising Sun. And Scrabble.

I’ll continue trying to do a couple of Stompie51 YouTube videos a month. I know one shouldn’t try and affirm oneself by social media approval, but it would be cool to hit 1000 subscribers (I’m almost at 800 now). It just seems fun to try and share what would otherwise just sit in my garage with a wider audience and see what love, mockery and constructive criticism comes back.

I never really work on one project at a time, but there are around half a dozen core projects that have been ongoing for at least a decade and I hope will keep going for another three (I’m not as old as my miniature interests suggest).

Although I did have fun doing a lot of kit bashing of stuff last year that probably will not be painted this decade, in between all of that, I did actually focus on painting up a pretty sizable force for Xenos Rampant and Mantic Firefight orcs.

This year I might try that same strategy, focusing on the super characterful plethora of metal dwarfs I have collected over 20 years, so as to have a Kings of War army, with which I have already played even though it is not painted. Each figure will be a joy, which cannot be said about much of my plastic miniatures. It won’t take much to finish off my team Yankee Yankee Iraqis, so that might be an exception.

I successfully have not got into any Kickstarters over the last couple of years (except for the small metal manufacturers, who just use it as a pre-order system like burrows and badgers). Mythic Battles Ragnarok took two years, so never again. I may be putting up a few of the unwanted gods et cetera soon.

Have a happy New Year all!

I have a few things to get to:

Finishing collecting and painting all of GWs 28mm 40k Inquisition... a project that never seems to terminate. I have between 4 and 14 depending on how technical I want to get.

Finishing the entire Foundry Darkest Africa line... I suspect I have about 80 figures left, mostly generic tribals and pygmies.

Finishing my 2005 era Sisters of Battle army... I think I have four tanks and maybe three figures left for that.

Scatter terrain that has been languishing for a couple years.

Continue my Crooked Dice Folk Horror project.

Run at least one convention game.

Hopefully play more... I think I played one tabletop wargame game in 2023  :'(

Interesting to see what people are planning for the year ahead and look forward to seeing folks end results. For me the plan is simple. Actually do something hobby related. I dabbled in building some Stargrave minis late 21 early 22 then everything went to hell in a handcart! Still got the minis but totally lost the sci-do mojo. So what did I pick for my dive back in….The Wild West (my last real hobby output https://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=62890.msg760680#msg760680 ) was fun so I’ve just gone bonkers and bought a ton of Foundry & Artizan minis some bases tufts a few wagons, hell, now I’ve actually spent the money I better get to it!

Make sure you have some personal goals *that you will actually stick to* when you retire. "A bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work" but it helps that you know that you like fishing!

Anyway, I'm currently playing Gloomhaven: Crimson Scales solo, and am painting up miniatures from the Wildspire Monsters and other sets as I play. I dislike painting miniatures, and gaming gives me a focus on what to paint. I should cut back on the buying, but there're too many shinys on KS (Archon, Loke, same guys who made Crimson Skies) and discounts during the holidays (and gotta reach free shipping).
