Strike at the Three Runs Mine - A Fistful of Lead Game (Updated 30/04/24)
« Reply #15 on: April 30, 2024, 04:10:28 PM »
Another scenario from 'For a Fistful More: Scenarios for Fistful of Lead' with the first of a three part linked scenario. Miners at a gold mine have gone on strike and the mine owners have dispatched some armed thugs to retake the mine. First time we have tried a four way battle.

Wow.  Too bad for the miners.  Great report though...

We used FFoL for my Matewan games (Coal miners vs. gun thugs in West Virginia in 1920).  The coal miners are 4-0 against the gun thugs, although a couple fight were close....

Another scenario from 'For a Fistful More: Scenarios for Fistful of Lead' with the second of a three part linked scenario. At the end of the previous game, the 'Bad Hombres' had got away with the gold. All they needed to do now was get the gold safely away to their hideout. Unfortunately, the Natives, the Miners and now Marshal Bill and his posse are after the gold.

Very nice.  It was nice to see the wagon returned to its rightful owner!  :D

The last part of our 'Miners' trilogy.

Having rescued the gold in the last game, the Miners have holed up at a hideout for the night. They're not safe as the other three gangs are still after the gold.

Have to ask... have you watched the movie?
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093509/

Don't even remember it being in theaters.  If you watch it, you'll get a good story, some great characters, and some memorable lines. (Sid Hatfield: I've met Mr. Felts. I wouldn't piss on him if his heart was on fire)

The law in town Sheriff (IIRC) Sid Hatfield (David Strathairn) is from the Hatfield family known for their ongoing dust up with the McCoy family.  James Earl Jones is always a favorite, and this was the first time I saw Mary McDonnell in a film.

A little slow in parts, but I liked it.

Fun game report - but why is the posse (supposedly on the side of the law) running at the arrival of the cavalry?  Perhaps their 'law' is a bit shady and suspect?   ;)

We had it that they were trying to recover the gold for the mineowners, so was the gold stolen by the miners or were they entitled to it?  ;)

Yep!  I bought my copy at the Coal Mine Wars Museum in Matewan, where my wife and I visited last year to do some research...you can still see the bullet holes in a few of the downtown buildings...

Another scenario from 'For a Fistful More: Scenarios for Fistful of Lead' scenario book. This time, two gangs decide to have a 'High Noon' style shoot out in the street.

Marshal Bill and his posse against Ricardo and the 'Bad Hombres'.

I enjoyed your report.  I felt sorry for Carlos, laying there getting shot again and again...same thing happened to my bossman in our last FFoL game. Looks like you need to paint up a new gang!
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.

2019 Painting Challenge :
figures bought: 500+
figures painted: 57
9 vehicles painted
4 terrain pieces scratchbuilt

That was interesting.  Chalk one up for Law and Order...or whatever pases for it on the Old West...

We had something similar to what happened to Carlos happen in one of our games of game of FFoL.  It involved outlaws and Indians attacking a farmstead.  Toward the end of the gunfight (which the farmsteaders ultimately won, kind of...), the farmstead family partiarch spent 3 or 4 turns following a wounded Indian around the cabin, calmly reloading his trusty buffalo gun and firing at the Indian as the Indian slowly failed recovery rolls and crawled away, before Ol' Pa finally killed the poor bugger...

Another scenario from 'For a Fistful More: Scenarios for Fistful of Lead' scenario book. Marshal Pete and his trusty Deputies (Riley and Hank) have arrived in a sleepy cattle town, only to find that it's under the thumb of a wealthy cattleman and his corrupt sheriff.

The Marshal has called out the cattleman, who has sent 5 of his thugs to deal with the Marshal.

Who wins? Find out here - https://nozzawargaming.blogspot.com/2024/07/the-showdown-fistful-of-lead-game.html
