Slate style paving stone bases
« on: 18 January 2024, 01:19:45 PM »
I'm looking for a top quality slate style paving effect in plastic sheeting so I can make my own bases for my Frostgrave Warbands and denizens.
I've looked at Renedra and they are nice but I would prefer the paving to be more sharp looking on the edges. Like it was laid by a qualified stone mason, not his apprentice.

Anybody have any ideas where I could get that kind of sheeting material?

Wills do a good range, thick plastic too, maybe something in their range?

Absolutely perfect Sir, thank you so much.
I used to have this stuff but used it all and ran out and couldn't remember who made it, or if they were still about.
Warbands on York stone and Monsters on crazy paving, love it.

I found it better to make my own. You can then integrate the base into the stone paving. Just use small bits of plastic or card. Flue with white wood glue. Some examples:

I have some.  Found it very difficult to cut.  (In fact, I gave up.   ::) )

I used the Renedra bases on these and some GS putty to fill some of the gaps I didn't want.

Traveller, those look quite effective. I may have to try that.

I found it quite fun and relaxing to puzzle together the little bricks. You can use the carton from cereal packets such as Special K. That is used on no 1 and 3 from the left and for the other two cutoffs from Wills sheets

Slater's is an alternative, larger, thinner sheets.

Setts.

Cut strips of 1mm plasticard in rectangles and glue them with plastic cement onto Renedra blank plastic bases. Then cut off the excess plasticard after drying and you're done.

I've done this many times and it works like a charm  :)

Coming at it from a different angle.
If you spend a little time making a single base. ( Whatever way you think look's best )
Then make a stamp mould you can replicate as many bases as you want. Which you can tweak individual bases quickly if you fancy a little more variation.
If you use a 25mm round for example on your original base then make the mould including the base. Then you just fill the flag stone detail in the mould with militput or greenstuff. Whilst it's still 'wet' you add a small dab of super glue to a 25mm round base and push it into the mould on top of the clay. So once it's cured/ dried it'll come out as one piece with ease.
Obviously the more moulds you make the more bases you can make in one go

There are also texture rollers you could use with some green stuff on the bases. I know Green Stuff World sells them.
