I recently saw a guy on Youtube who made his entire terrain magnetic by adding about 50% iron powder to his paints, plaster and texture pastes. Apparently this does not impact the structure of the pieces (much: it must to some degree, obviously).

Now his work is mostly smallish magnetized tiles for RPG settings, but the idea has absolute merit for wargaming tables. My only worry is that this will increase the weight of our tables significantly :D

Seriously though; he is able to place minis with magnetized bases on the top of (plaster) rocks without them even moving, let alone falling off. I'm seriously contemplating giving his idea a test...
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

That does sound interesting .

I think I’ll have a dabble with that starting in my pavement sections . 👍

I had to trawl through my list of watched videos for a bit, but here it is:

https://youtu.be/6NoMOBjs7n0?si=opom8hVSjZOhMugz

He's a bit of a guru when it comes to magnetic gaming tiles and I've been following him for a while now. The man may look like a budget Harry Potter, but he knows what he's doing...

Yes, it will be heavy.  I tried magnetic paint (lots of iron filings mixed in) in the troughs of one Plano box for figure storage.  By the time I added enough coats to get a good grip on figure bases that had magnets on the bottom, it was much much heavier than just gluing a strip of magnet sheet down the length of the trough.

Very nice work all around!!

Love the random shoppers at Woolworth doing their best to ignore the invasion.

I was just thinking the same thing.  Looks like the guy is walking into the barbershop, no worries in the world.

That's just old school British phlegm. 'What's that? Daleks? Fuck it, I'm still getting a haircut.'

Meanwhile a Dalek lurks in the barber shop waiting for its moment to intone 'EXFOLIATE! EXFOLIATE!'

> Daleks Invasion Of Earth 1980

It just occured to me that the 1980s are closer to WW II than to today.

Indeed … saw some weird quote about that the other day, and it was like … where DID those decades go?
