Yesterday I played a solo game of FRONTLINE HEROES fields of Normandy but in a modern setting (instead of ww2) using the same rules almost with no change at all.

A patrol near fallujah (the player) is ambushed by a group of insurgents (the AI that rules the enemy). The humvee they are driving has been damaged by an IED and the marines have to resist five turns before the reinforcements arrive.

The insurgents are deployed in random Entry Points turn by turn during five turns, after the fifth turn is over, the mission is finished.
I used only 4 miniatures for the marines and 6 for the insurgents (as they "respawn"), this game doesn´t need a lot of miniatures, but you´ll need a lot of covers, ´cause cover is REALLY important to keep your soldiers alive.

I played the mission 3 times as the game is fast and deadly: 2-1 for the marines, but I have to say that it was a really tense evening ´cause even if you are winning any turn the situation may change drastically.

The AI works as a flowchart that decides what actions take the insurgents, and I have to admit that it was a tough opponent, even as an assymetric fight.

In the pictures there are a few explanations on how the player miniatures are deployed and how insurgents deploy turn by turn to keep the player on edge.

I wanted to share what I've been working on these days.

Currently, I'm developing a modern version of Frontline Heroes.

Frontline Heroes: Modern Warfare is a ruleset for skirmish combat set in the modern era (from 1950 to 2024), and it includes rules for combat, stealth, vehicles, and various equipment such as bulletproof vests and even drones.

This rulebook isn't tied to any specific setting, allowing you to play different military conflicts all around the globe, confrontations between police and robbers in the middle of American cities, civil wars in remote African countries, drug cartels being attacked by military forces in South America, or gang wars over neighborhood control in European cities...

You can play in any setting you want with the miniatures you prefer.

The rules are already made, although the system for creating the warbands and missions is radically different from Frontline Heroes: Fields of Normandy.

I still have to finish the creation of missions and make the layout.

Additionally, I have the problem of not having many miniatures for modern conflicts, so I'm not sure how I will include photographs when making the layout of the game.

As I finish this modern version, I'll keep you updated.

See you on the battlefield.

A quick reference sheet (QRS) with the main mechanics and tables of the game has been added to the WargameVault file.

It includes the basic combat mechanics (both melee and ranged) and the tables for solo mode.

They are available for download in the same file as Frontline Heroes: Fields of Normandy on WargameVault.

See you on the battlefield!

(la hoja de referencia rápida está disponible unicamente en inglés, aunque esta añadida al archivo de Frontline Heroes: Campos de Normandía en castellano)
