Get Camela! A Lion Rampant scenario.

Lat Friday at our local game hangout we put on a Vikings vs (dark age?) Arabs game - mainly because I wanted to use my newly painted Arabs.  The scenario was that an Andalusian noblewoman (Queen Camela) was returning to her observation tower next to a Big River after making a tour of her kingdom's borderlands.  Unfortunately, the forces of intrigue were at work and a disloyal courtier hired a force of Vikings led by Einar (aka Kirk Douglas from The Vikings) to put an end to her.  The game opened with an archer ambush on the Arab caravan as it entered the board.  The unexpected attack severely disrupted a unit of Arab archers but the ambushers were themselves driven off by a unit of elite infantry and the caravan was able to continue it's advance.  However, shortly thereafter the caravan came under attack from an area of high ground on the right that soon came to be called "Blood Hill".  This was the sight of an ongoing series of combats that finally left left the Arabs in command of the hill but   at the cost of most of their cavalry and left their infantry severely decimated.  While this was occurring Camela's carriage managed to get past the carnage but was then confronted by a couple of fresh Viking units so we opted to end the game with a duel between Camela and Kirk Douglas - Camela lost.  It was a fun game.  Next time Arabs vs Mongols!

Nice!  Love a game with a story rather than just two armies smacking into each other, great game, great table, hope you all had fun.

Yeah, loads of fun, this one.   It was definitely a "quality" vs "quantity" battle.   Some of those extra pips like "fearsome" and "bloodthirsty" were excellent points-value buys for the Arab side, causing several viking units to break.  In the end, the sheer numbers of less-expensive troops just overwhelmed the Arab convoy, plus the vikings had excellent ambush positions. 

Probably just should have gone full left flank only and let the vikings get in their own way, but it wasn't an option as the darn wagon had to stay on the road.   Good game though.   

I wonder what Excalibur's Merlin was going to do though.   Summon a mist?  Call on The Dragon?

Hey, quick question: Was it Fearsome or Bloodthirsty that gave double hits on a natural six?

Bloodthirsty gives double hits on a 6. Fearsome gives the opponent a -1 to courage tests.
