Dr Syn
« on: 31 May 2024, 03:01:50 AM »
Has anyone ever done a Dr. Syn/Scarecrow army? I have the figures I think I will need set aside for a HOTT army, and have read and reread the book so many times trying to figure out what the marsh Witches and Demons would look like. So I am always open to ideas. I know they wore ragged women's clothes and had fluorescent paint on their faces and also some on the horses (faces and heads I am guessing).  I am also guessing that the fluorescent paint would have been like a dayglow light greenish yellow.
Would appreciate any pictures or thoughts of armies or efforts on this.
Thanks you,
Terry

Ahh, A long standing project of mine. :)

Thanks to cat for linking my thread.

I based mine on the Disney series and also on the Hammer film version painting the horses with a skeleton theme.

One day I will return to it. lol

I wonder whether this is more suited to the flouncy shirts board where I originally posted my thread?

Hope you do, it's fun to follow along!

Crooked Dice has a few figures that are good for this sort of thing (I've got them to add to Bokkenrijder mobs):

Thanks all!!!

Yes Malamute, I remember your thread well, and even had commented on it. I am wanting to do mine based more on the book with the Mash Witches wearing witches conical hats , and the Demon Riders with heavy moustaches and hoods or a skeleton type face - and all with glowing faces and wearing ragged ladies dresses. Mipps is described as wearing a large cape and a black mask on the upper portion of his face, and I am guessing with the lower portion glowing. The Scarecrow will have a cloth scarecrow mask, a long cape and tricorn on a light gray horse, but no glow to any of him.

My biggest two dilemmas are how to represent the ladies ragged dresses, and what to do with he glowing paint on the horses??? Probably use mounted cloaked wraiths for the Demon Riders and the same figures for the Marsh Witches, but with a witches head transplant. I do like the skeleton look for the Demon Riders horses, and maybe just the horses faces for the witches.

Being a HOTT army I only need 4 figures for 2 elements of which one will be Marsh Witches and the other Demon Riders. Mipps will be based with the Scarecrow.

As long as you're not Anish Kapoor, Stuart Semple's LIT pigment is what you want.  Mix this with a white acrylic paint, and it glows in most ambient lighting situations.  This stuff is pure magic:
