As mentioned here at the time, a couple of years ago I did a show demo game of the Battle of Murfreesboro or Stones River.  I've since dug the terrain-boards for that battle out for some smaller 'what-if' scenarios, including this one.

In the actual battle, the original Union plan to attack the Confederate right flank on the morning of 31st December 1862 was swiftly cancelled when the Confederates got their own attack on the opposite flank in first.  So here, we decided to see what would happen if Crittenden's Union Left Wing Corps instead continued with the original plan and pressed home an attack on Breckenridge's Confederate Division on Wayne's Hill.

Of course, in reality this would have spelled disaster for the Union, as Crittenden's troops were brought back over the Stones River and were instrumental in finally halting the Confederate assault, but it's a fun little scenario, so what the heck.  We actually played it on a triangular corner of the original terrain, but I've 'squared off' the map for the purposes of the scenario.

The scenario is designed for Fire & Fury 2nd Edition and the models are 10mm figures by Pendraken.

Here's the scenario:  http://www.jemimafawr.co.uk/2024/05/31/murfreesboro-1862-the-northern-flank-scenario-for-fire-fury-2nd-edition/

And here's the AAR:  http://www.jemimafawr.co.uk/2024/05/06/murfreesboro-1862-the-northern-flank/

Wow, we just played out this battle last Sunday in 6mm in Toronto.  We did the whole thing, the host had the game set up so I'm not exactly sure of how/when our starting positions jibe with yours, but the Union left was in position to attack as the Confederate left was moving in, but still not on top of the Union right. I was the Union right and stalled and fell back to keep the rebels from getting in a killing blow, while our left and centre-left went after the Confederate right.  We timed out as a draw, just as a hole was punched in the Confederate centre, around the railroad and road crossing.

Great looking table and so cool to see another take on the battle that we only really got in to for the purposes of the game!

Cheers,
Chris

Thanks Chris!  Yes, I was looking at your game report on FB yesterday and it was fabulous! :)

My original game was a slightly-expanded version of the scenario from the Great Western Battles 2nd Edition scenario book for Fire & Fury.  The Confederates ran out of steam half-way up the table in the first one, so I tweaked the Union morale downwards a bit and ran it again and it was a better game - the Confederates reached the railway and the Round Forest (which changed hands several times) but we then ran out of time while the game was on a knife-edge.  We're hoping to play it a third time at some point this year!

Here's the first game report.  I haven't got around to posting the second game report:

As the others have stated, the terrain board is very eye-catching. So much better than the mats favored today. But storing it must be something of a challenge. Please dedicate a step by step tutorial the next time you decide to create a new board from scratch.

And thank you for posting such big pictures. They allowed me to fully inspect every little detail pertaining to the things on the table.

Thanks ZR!

Yeah, it is something of a nause to store, but I've got a big (cold and damp) outbuilding not doing much else at the moment, so it can stay there for now.

I did bore everyone here at the time with the terrain-building process, but if you're struggling with insomnia, this is a guaranteed cure! :)

Yes, as others have said - a truly great looking game.
However, what I would like to compliment you on is the actual gift of the scenario itself.
Well written, well presented, and extremely generous with background, orders of battle, and the time it takes to put it all together.
This kind of gaming material is very much appreciated.
Cheers.
