Needed: 28mm Middle East Militia / Rioters
« on: June 17, 2024, 02:46:30 PM »
I'd prefer resin / plastic, and I'm having a tough time with my usual sources.

Looking for a mob of 40-50 urban middle easterners [so, not Taliban types] who would make generic militia and / or rioters.  I love diversity, so I don't care if they are AK wielding Palastinians, Libyans, Syrians, Lebanese, Egyptians, Tunisians, whatever.  Think street clothes and AK-47s, and you're headed in the right direction.

I plan to use them for the Libyan uprising and assault on the American embassy in Banghazi from "13 Hours", but they will happily burn any neighborhood down over a 40-50 year time span.

this is why I can't believe I'm having problems finding them!  lol
"The U.S. Army's mission is to fight and win the nation's wars,
and its vision is to be a global force that fights at the scale required."

Sir, I respectfully suggest 1/56 & 1/100 as the best scales in which to fight...!

Spectre had a range of MENA (Middle East & North Africa). I cannot see them of the current website.

I have several of them somewhere  ;D

Also take a look at Empress

Spectre are in the process of resculpting a number of older ranges, including the MENA ranges.

Nearest I can think of are the recent Kickstarter from Miska Miniatures which includes urban protestors/rioters, I don't know if the files have been released yet but they will probably be available from licensed printers on release.

So does Mofo Miniatures in their "Modern" line, available from Badger Games here in the States or Gripping Beast...

Here are some of both Eureka and MoFo Minis painted up (by me)...

Mind you, they are metal.  I am not aware of any plastics.  Although some of Warlord's ProjectZ Survivors might work - they are multi-part hard plastic (and their weapon sprues have AKs!)

Quite a few packs in The Assault Group's Afghans and Iraqis range should be useable. https://theassaultgroup.co.uk/product-category/ultra-modern/afghans-iraqis/. There are rioters and armed criminals in their Western civilians range. https://theassaultgroup.co.uk/product-category/ultra-modern/western-civilian-corporate/ Possibly also some of the African Irregulars, though they might need head swaps. https://theassaultgroup.co.uk/product-category/ultra-modern/african-irregulars/

Militia Miniatures (from Pendraken) have several packs of rioters and insurgents that may be of use. Apparently intended for Africa, but many are masked, so that needen't be a problem. https://www.pendraken.co.uk/28mm-militia-miniatures-rioters

Offensive Miniatures have quite a few in their "Rioting Mob and the Law" range. Intended for Britain/Western Europe, but adaptable. https://www.offensiveminiatures.com/rioting-mob-and-the-law

Checkpoint Miniatures have a few packs of Urban Rioters. https://www.checkpointminiatures.co.uk/product-category/28mm-ranges/the-modern-era/28mm-urban-rioters/

First Corps have various gunmen, rioters and protesters intended for Ulster, but, again, they are figures in modern(ish) street clothes and masks, so they may be of use. https://1stcorps.co.uk/product-category/20th-century/cold-wars/internal-security-role/

Those are all metal. In 3D printing, Patrick Miniatures have some MENA rebels, but also others that might be of use: civilians, criminal gangs, covert operatives. This is the link to their modern range on Etsy, but it might also be worth having a quick look through their post-apocalypse stuff too: https://www.etsy.com/se-en/shop/PatrickMiniatures?ref=shop-header-name&listing_id=1098445526&from_page=listing&section_id=32493506

If you like kit-bashing plastic, the Survivors from Warlord Games's Project Z range might be useful - the weapon and accessory sprues certainly would be. NB Warlord are discontinuing this range. https://store.warlordgames.com/collections/project-z

If you're ok with 3D prints, check out Quartermaster 3D's Iraqi War Insurgents.  There are quite a few shops selling them if you don't have a printer yourself.

In addition to the above there are also the old Mongrel Miniatures Arab Militia range  now sold through Badger Games. Designed for the Lebanese Civil War but pretty much perfect for what you want. Don't be put off by the paint jobs on the website. If you click on the pacs you can see the figures in bare metal and they are rather nice.

https://badgergames.com/product/mongrel-miniatures/arab-militia/

Eureka also produce a range of African civvies and rioters, which by way of a change in skin colour could be successfuly proxied as Middle Eastern types.

I recommend Miska miniatures MENA rebels. They are available as STL and also as printed models from several vendors.

I went with Mongrel miniatures as they have the correct headwear.
