The Battle of Cowpens
« on: 29 July 2024, 07:55:18 PM »
A short post, minus photos as Blogger has gotten quite fussy about it https://corlearshookfencibles.blogspot.com/2024/07/the-battle-of-cowpens-and-devil-of.html

Blogger has recently kept me from posting photos from the internet.

I can at least post one here.

And the glorious general led the advance
With a glorious swish of his sword and his lance
And a glorious clank of his tin-plated pants. - Dr. Seuss

A remember reading Babits book on Cowpens a few years ago. A very readable and detailed account.

I wasn’t so much impressed by the Americans rate of fire so much as their being able to reload while refusing their flank so that the highlanders opposing them, believing them to be in retreat, charged only to receive a point blank range volley when the Americans about faced. This together with a well timed flank charge by Washington’s light dragoon’s causing the highlanders to break/surrender.

I recall the order to refuse the flank was misunderstood and a retreat started. Morgan asked if the jig was up. Colonel Howard answered men who marched like that weren't beaten. Morgan agreed and rushed to rally the militia. Upon reaching the crest of the slight hill, they halted, turned and fired into the pursuing British. The redcoats were (in the words of William Washington, "coming on like a mob". Many of their officers had been shot by the militia on Morgan's orders. They thought they'd won already. Then Washington and his dragoons hit one flank while Andrew Pickens and the rallied militia hit the other. In game terms, Morgan rolled boxcars.

.... In game terms, Morgan rolled boxcars.

That's so funny.  I've begun to think about movie and TV scenes in terms of how they rolled in game terms... :D

There has been a recent change with blogger but you still should be able to post photos.  I think first you have say yes to cookies and then you should be able to upload photos from your Download portion of your computer - or at least that is how it is working on my MacBook.

I've seen other changes with Google which lead me to believe that free access to Google is in jeopardy.  Hope I'm wrong but it seems to be moving in that direction.

My recent mucking with Blogger has me able to post photos I took with my camera, uploaded from my PC. But I can't post images via URL or any other method I've tried, even though the images are public domain.

Ok, folks, found out what the problem with posting images is. My wife has been having a dialogue with tech support at her art website. It seems a group of lawyers has automated a search of websites looking for images used without permission and been suing people. Don’t know if AI is being used. I guess later today I’ll go through my previous posts and yank images that I didn’t create.

Looks like they are fencing in the open range.
