Deadlands infantry
« on: 27 November 2009, 01:29:38 PM »
Okay, this could be in the VSF section but the question fits better here. In the Deadlands background the ACW carries on for several years until other issues force a ceasefire. As such the north and south become seperate nations. There are many 'unofficial' skirmishes, particularly in the West and in the Disputed Territories that never declared for one side or the other. I'd like to do some battles between different troops to go alongside my Deadlands RPG.

The question comes down to equipment. ACW uniforms etc would be fine for many troops (although not zouaves) as the continued war makes resupply costly and difficult, however weapons got upgraded as a matter of importance. So assuming weapon progress I'm going to presume the Springfield '73 gets mass supplied, particularly as it's a modification to the already existing ACW rifle (who's name I can't think of).

So, how difficult would it be to change an ACW figure, say Perry Plastics, to look like it's carrying a Springfield '73? Is there mutch difference?
So many projects..... so little time.......

To be honest I wouldnt worry about it too much, what you could do though is possibly reflect changes in uniform such as hats, colours and such.

It might be worth thinking about Gatling guns being attached as "field guns" whihc the rules already have covered.

Perhaps an overseas influence with supplies from European backers such as Britain and France who may fall on the side of the Confederates

You could invest in some of the Artizan Plains wars infantry who wil lbe equipped as per the 1870's. They also have a Gattling gun and crew in infantry uniform.

Only really works for the North though :( And would get expensive to do large groups. Renegade regiment deals or Perry plastics make it feasible. I expect I'm going to have to do both sides myself.

France is backing Mexico (who will make an appearance when Malamute does the right figures.....) and Britain has been 'pursuaded' (there is a reason for this but it's quite the spoiler) to not help the confederates, although they had already annexed Detroit.

Yep, I'll also include various Ghost Rock powered weird tech but the basic infantry should still be just that. So, not bother changing the guns? As far as I can tell it was a mechanism and barrel change so I expect the gun looks pretty similar.

Although, just looking at the Renegade regiments page, the ACW packs are rather random with mixed hats and jacket types in each. Not what I was wanting.

Work begins on the Mexican army in january, infantry first, then cavalry and light infantry to follow.

It's a style thing for the Mexicans though, for French troops fighting over there certainly. FFL will have to make an appearance too.

Man,  :(  my other hobby expenses have held me back from the vaqueros and
now this... :'(

lol  Actually, very good!  This supports Zorro, alternate Reality Alta California, and Olde West ---> Olde/New Mexico ---> settings.)

I just need some 'boots on the ground' to justify over-time!

Gracias,

The exisiting Governor figure is actually based on Santa Anna as he appeared at the Alamo seige, dressed in frock coat and low crowned sombrero.

But I expect people will want to see the traditional version in full dress uniform. So in time yes. :)

I hadn't realised that, but yeah, full dress is how I always envisage him.

Oh, go on then. If you really have to  ::)

 lol

One thing I'm confused about (one of many things, but this one is relevant to this thread) is are the proposed Mexicans Alamo, Mex-Am War or Maximillian period?  There is a fair bit of difference between the first two and a lot with the third.

Obviously the Max period would be compatible with the ACW and after, but your current range - and you can't rest until it is finished - is more 1820-30s.

Please help my poor brain   :(
