This September the Saint Crispin Irregulars
of Anaheim, California are gonna go...

"A BRIDGE TOO FAR"!

To commemorate its 80th Anniversary we will run a 28mm refight of
Operation Market Garden -- covering Hell's Highway, Eindhoven, Nijmegen & Arnhem.

Will Allied armor succeed in crossing the Rhine to relieve the desperate
British Paras at Arnhem and set the stage to beat the Soviets to Berlin?

This is gonna be epic, so we need as many players as we can recruit!

We'll start at 9:00am and will go until XXX Corps reaches the British 1st Airborne Division…

…Or the Red Devils are overrun like they were, tragically, in 1944.

If you can't be there for kickoff at 9:00am, show up later in the day
or night and you may get a chance to step in and command troops.

As at many convention games we'll be using FIRE & MANEUVER home-brew rules.

In the past we've done Eindhoven…

We've done Nijmegen…

And we've done Arnhem...

But we've never done them altogether at once at a convention before!

Do we have enough troops, terrain & tables?

YES.

Have we play-tested it?

YES.

Are we nuts?

MAYBE.

...But that never kept anyone from
enjoying one of our games before!

If you live in Southern California or plan to be in the area the last weekend of September, we hope to see you there!

The lead GM for this game asked me to come back and post these 2 pics showing German success vs. lead elements of XXX Corps on Hell's Highway. They are his favorites from all the many pics of all the many times we've gamed different portions of Operation Market Garden over the past decade or so, because the game recreated history so closely…

Oh Man! That looks like it's going to be a blast. I wish I could make it but not able to this year.

Long overdue THANKS to Akula and Strider AKA: Javier!

Meanwhile, over in Holland...........

XXX CORPS REACHES THE LAST FEW BRITISH PARAS NORTH OF THE RHINE & AGAINST THE ODDS ACHIEVE A HARD-FOUGHT ALLIED VICTORY!!!

The game was played all day and night this past Saturday September 28th and for about 3 hrs. on the morning of Sunday September 29th, at the annual HMGS-Pacific South West MINI-WARS convention, held this year at the Howard Johnson by Wyndham in Fullerton/Anaheim, California.

During the entire course of the game we had 10 players cycle through, with many staying the whole time and a couple other unable to keep from returning after leaving to do other no doubt cool stuff for a while.

I will return to my blog and the WWII boards with a more detailed AAR of the entire game, but for now I wanted to provide at least a cursory AAR for various people who've been kinda clamoring to know how it went.

We had EIGHTEEN 6 ft. x 2.5 ft. tables arranged into 2 XXL tables each 18 ft. x 7.5 ft., for a total of 270 square feet of tabletop space. I've been playing miniature wargames since I was about 10 years old and I'm 59, and this was the largest wargaming surface I've GM'ed or played on in those 49 years.

One last pic showing the Polish Parachute Brigade advancing onto Arnhem Bridge after successfully dropping into "The Island" and advancing North…

Huge respect to you and your friends - you can't beat gaming a historic battle on an epic scale
