Restless Desert Planet Natives?
« on: 29 September 2024, 01:10:25 PM »
So my sci fi setting is not going to win any prizes for originality, it's a mash-up of Necromunda with Tatooine - a mining and processing facility on a red desert planet with an adobe aesthetic for the human workers' settlement. The human military forces are colonial marine types, and they can expect to go up against bugs (Wargames Atlantic Harvesters) and lizardmen (WA Lizardmen) as well as the odd Dalek.

What I've not got are some native humanoids. I'm thinking of Jawa and Tusken types, with flowing robes for keeping cool. Any suggestions?
Waiter, my soup is giggling.

You could have a look at the Stargrave Scavenger sets. There are also loads of 3d prints you can pick up

Ironclad Miniatures Sanwar figures. You’ll find them in their VSF range. Desert dwelling figures in robes. There are quite a few packs to choose from.  :)

Ironclad miniatures also have their Martians, which are basically gasmasked Bedouin innn spaaaccce

I use Kroot as my indigenous aliens, sniping at the settlers and raiding convoys. But they might be too recognisable  and possibly too jungle/woodlandy

Why limit yourself to flowing robes?
Northstars steampunk range has aliens that might fit the bill.

I do like the look of the Sanwar figures but I'm still waiting for the Denizen reboot to get round to doing the K'hiff in 28mm. The Northstar ones look great but not what you'd call much of a challenge, unless they are psychic, can teleport or have thousands of mates!

Pig Iron's Kolony Ferals are well worth a look. The figures are simple but the heads are separate and there are loads of 'sand-dweller' and alien heads out there so you can make them into almost anything.

It's not big, or clever, but let's do it anyway

Also their Kolony Rebels and their Scavengers (one of my favorite ranges, actually).

Also Anvil Industries has a Desert House range as well as tons of stuff with which you can customize.

I made some desert guys with the following parts:
- Medium armor torso
- Long greatcoat legs
- Fatigue arms (rifle position)
- Jezail rifles
- Desert house commando heads

Haven't painted them, yet, though.

Thanks again all. I've plumped for the Sanwar from Ironclad, the lizard rider sold me on them. I do have some of the Kolony Ferals from Pigiron, they would have been my second choice! I do like those North Star figures, may be next time.

Bit late to the party, but just stumbled across the gw ash waste nomads while looking for something else - https://www.warhammer.com/en-GB/shop/necromunda-ash-wastes-nomads-war-party-2022,  so thought I'd throw them into the mix
