15mm Egyptians for Yom Kippur War
« on: 30 October 2024, 07:01:13 PM »
I'm almost done with these. After they're completely finished I'll build terrain and Israelis.

These are specifically based on photos of the battle of "Chinese Farm," October 15-17, 1973. I'll use Fate of a Nation, a Flames of War game, but I'll also use Avalon Hill's IDF as a rules system converted for minis.

For these, yes. They're from the Fate of a Nation range, which is hard to get these days.

If you want lots more, my big local shop has TONS of this range.

Great models - the markings are spot on! I used to have a massive Yom Kippur collection in 6mm (GHQ), and loads of reference works. The hard books to get in translation? The Syrian side of the conflict. They don’t talk much about it, apparently.

There used to be a Canadian IntO who had a website with photos of killed armour from his UN tours there, I think the site is long gone. Might have pdf and photos saved on a drive, if you’re interested.

Really? Do they have a website? I'd love to see what they have. I'd especially like to find Israeli Shermans and Tirans (Converted former Soviet tanks).

That's one of the fascinating things about this era. On one hand it's really well known and you can find all sorts of reference material, like old news broadcasts from the front where you can see exactly hot things looked - but there's also a lot of secrecy and misinformation. And some of the older sources have some interesting misinterpretations - for example, there were all sorts of reports of Soviet-built T-10s being present, to the point that they're included in old Avalon Hill games. In fact, these were IS-3s that were misidentified.

There’s a photo of a PzIV from the source I have - how weird is that, right? Leftover WW2!

I guess in ,,normal" Team Yankee they are available under the Iraqi flag. I am collecting Hungarian Peoples Army for TY (there is the thread somewhere here), basically the same stuff save the IS3 and Su100. The T-55s and BMPs are Soviet plastics (they can be built as T-55A and the extra armoured AM, and the BMP both as BMP-1 and BMP-2), Shilkas are also available as Soviet vehicles, the Zsu-57-2s are in the Iraqi range. I do not know about the infantry, but they aso have Iraqi infantry, that would make nice Egyptians, in this scale it is only the painting. WW2 vehicles one can just buy from the WW2 Soviet range,

Nice! The IntO who used to have the site “Armoured Acorn” had his own photos from his tours. He was an interesting guy. I have to check my old drive to see how much I saved before the site went cold. I know I have all the Canadian stuff.

I have some Arab and IDF models from the FOAN range which I’ve been planning to sell on, including some Shermans. Are you UK based?
