Egyptian gun carriage colour (for the Sudan)?
« on: 31 October 2024, 09:53:18 PM »
I have a couple of captured Krupp 6pdr guns to paint for my Mahdists (and another couple for the Egyptians, later). I've looked about and it seems some gamers paint the carriage grey and others blue. Does anyone have any info that is more specific?

I suppose they could have been supplied to Egypt as per Prussian guns from the factory (Prussian regulation blue) or Egypt might have ordered them delivered painted another colour, or repainted them on arrival - possibly grey?

Without more info I'll go for grey, though I do prefer the look of the blue.

I've started painting my Beja 'fuzzies' (I've done about 180 so far) and I'm finding the 'colourless' pallet very boring to paint - though the finished article is looking fairly good.

This is the best I can come up with:

https://www.alamy.com/british-troops-dragging-artillery-into-position-near-alexandria-during-image68265283.html?imageid=8D610262-C9D1-46BA-A070-2AFDF385474D&p=15096&pn=1&searchId=366292392e83653f1ca30a42fe6fe5a7&searchtype=0

So, I'd call that gray.

I googled "color images of 19th century Egyptian artillery".

Might just be a British gun under sailors.

:o Maybe there is something in the tomb heiroglyphics somewhere?!  lol <<< goof ball answer  :D

I did mine a blue grey fir the same reason.. and a dusty dry brush…

180 is great start .l
