Fokker D-III
« on: 19 December 2024, 09:12:12 PM »

I've finally got my FDM printed 1/144 version of the D-III painted.

The print is okay for FDM, but because it was printed nose-down, the  front of the cowling and engine are pretty rough. It may be necessary to  detach them and print them separately, at a different orientation.
However, this will do for gaming purposes.

The Fokker D-III appeared before the Germans started going berserk with the paint schemes for their fighters, so this guy looks very drab compared with the later harlequins of the Flying Circuses.

Looking good Fitz!!!

I've had that problem with printing too.  I tried different angles and settled on printing with the nose up at 60 degrees.  Seemed to solve the issues with engine, cowling, and landing gear deformation, but I cannot get the struts to come out as nice as I would like and the rear edge of the wings and tail can get a bit rough, but can easily be sanded.

I'm sure there's a solution, just haven't hit on it yet and I may not print anymore aircraft for a good while being I have plenty right now.

One thing I've found on my Elegoo Neptune 4 Pro is to preheat the nozzle and the bed before I start a print, letting it warm up during the initial print phase (before it actually starts oozing out filament) usually end in disaster.  The preheat cycle on the Elegoo is in the PREPARE menu section.

There's so many setting on the printer I'm not sure if I have them set correctly when I start.  I'm getting prints so it's close if not perfect yet.
