The Embattled Realms - Relic Hunter from The Mystic Order
« on: 18 January 2025, 10:49:56 PM »
A Relic Hunter from The Mystic Order (also known as The Order Of Mystics) stands before a ruined chapel in The Embattled Realms after searching it for forgotten (but potentially powerful) religious artifacts. This institution exists as a gnostic alternative to the much larger, more widespread, and far more rigid Church Militant (which considers the Mystics as misguided, pagans, heretics, or worse). Despite being smaller, the group possesses capabilities out-of-proportion to its size and does almost as much to battle evil in its many forms as its more conservative big brother.

Where The Church Militant relies on strict adherence to doctrine, scriptures, piety, and, of course, brute force. Mystics are more likely to take a “by any means necessary” approach to defeating the many nefarious threats to peace, safety, sanity, and salvation in The Embattled Realms. The Mystic Order is constantly searching for erudite and esoteric means to achieve “good” while also relying on the more traditional tools of “common” magic and might of arms.

This is where Relic Hunters demonstrate their usefulness. These powerful and exceedingly capable individuals are masters of both magic and close combat. Armed and armored with the best (often enchanted) panoply available and well-provisioned, they act as roving, far-ranging agents of The Mystic Order. Their objective is simple - seek out and retrieve ancient artifacts of religious and/or magical power for use by their organization. Their proficiency in the arcane arts and lethality in melee help ensure the successful completion of their mission. They will also often work in conjunction with a Mystic field force, lending their potent abilities to its efforts.

This Relic Hunter is portrayed by a “Black Legionnaire Errant” from Reaper Miniatures painted with that company’s paints. The colors used were:

Grey brush-on primer - overall.
Tarnished steel - armor, helmet, axe blade, and crossbow stirrup.
Russet brown - axe haft sng crossbow body.
Runic purple - robe and hood.
Icy violet - sash.
Rich leather - boots, gloves, belt, scabbard, and backpack.
Orc skin - bedroll.
Reliquary gold - chest insignia and badges.
Ancient bronze - sword hilt and armor emblems/accents.
Saddle brown - whip.
Muddy olive - base.
Black wash diluted with wash medium - overall.
