Darwin Military Museum - Part Two
« on: February 01, 2025, 10:02:24 AM »
In this the second part to my post looking at the collection held by the Darwin Military Museum at East Point, Darwin, Australia, I focus on the militaria and other weapons displayed in the various ex-utility buildings that are on site at the former 9.2-inch coastal battery complex.

The museum, through a combination of models together with some rather unique displays of military equipment and weapons, shows the range of military campaigns that Australian service personnel have been involved in since WWI along with their allies.

The exhibition is completed with one of the 9.2-inch gun emplacements restored to show how it might have looked in WWII as part of the harbour defences against Japanese attack.

Great write up / photos of the visit, thanks for taking the time to post it.

Two bits jumped out to me - model of HMS Canberra carved with a pocket knife!

And, your memories of seeing Dakotas taking off for D-Day!

Hi Fred, thank you and yes the model of Canberra was an amazing piece of work which puts my own efforts at scratch building to shame and re Dakotas and D-Day, I was recalling pictures of said aircraft at Exeter airfield where I spent many hours back in the day learning to fly from, and where there were several of the old warbirds parked up for many years back in the late 1960’s.

Cheers
JJ
