Red Copper Conquistadors
« on: February 03, 2025, 01:58:26 PM »
I’ll admit, I’m a sucker for the conquest of the americas/age of exploration. I’ve painted a ton of Irregular Miniatures’ Spanish Colonial range, and I’m always looking for more to add to my collection. I came across Red Copper’s kickstarter earlier this week and decided to pull the trigger.

I printed these out at 100% and they are much larger than typical 15mm. Probably closer to 20mm. I’ll continue to post more pictures as I paint them up. Still need a few highlights but they have nice details.

Love the guy with the map! Can’t you scale up or down the prints to match your other figs?

When I scaled them down, they looked a bit skinny compared to my other figures. I could potentially add an offset in mesh mixer to make them more heroic looking.

Nice figures, yes, you might need to scale them slightly differently in each axis to match exisitng metal figs.

In an effort to match them up with my other figures, I rescaled to 81% (figure brow was lined up with 15mm mark on a ruler). I also added a .1 mesh offset to give a more heroic look and added a circular base. Hopefully I can paint these up tonight.

It’s a subtle difference but I think it will be more noticeable when painted.

I find it’s often the overall bulk of figures, as much as the height that makes them look right together on the table.

Hopefully these tweaks work against the metal figures - and once you have worked them out, they will be good for all the ones from this range.

For sure. There are some wonderful models included - their Inca and Inca rebellion figures are particularly interesting. Not sure of any manufacturers with Inca arquebusiers currently!

Comparison to the Khurasan colonials. I think these will match up nicely!

They look pretty close to the metals now.

I’d not heard of Red Copper before - will try and remember them, if I ever get round to painting up my 12mm conquistadors and natives.

They do.

I'll add for Inca fanciers I have that Khurasan figure. He and his fellows match the Essex 15mm Inca range. Meaning Red Copper at this scale would do so too.

Very impressive.

It only took three months but cleaning out the garage inspired me to print out some more characters to round out my Spanish colonials. I was planning on using irregular wars but now I’m contemplating… thoughts?

I plan on having some “civilian bases” to reside in the town (maybe an objective for marauding elizabethans) one of the governor, his high maintenance daughter, and a church official. The others will be miscellaneous camp followers so to speak.

I'm a big fan of Irregular Wars. Haven't (yet) used them for this period / location. But as a ruleset they are very much designed for this kind of asymmetric and fairly small scale battles.

Made some good progress tonight! I’m quite pleased with how the “Governor” turned out.
