Imperial Cuirassiers (figures added 22/8)
« on: 04 March 2025, 10:56:59 AM »
I thought you might be interested in these guys, the start of (yet another) unit of Imperial cuirassiers. The conversions are by Brian Rigelsford, the painting by Andrew Taylor who also took the photo.

You thought well Paul :)
Very inspiring project, as all the miniatures you show us from this period, thanks for sharing!

Many thanks. The unit will be of 32 riders and horses. Andrew has all the figures and he's painting them as and when my funds allow.

What figures/range are the conversions based on?

I can't answer this question, I'm afraid, so I've asked Brian. I suspect the riders are a real mixture with bits from all over - a hand from here, legs from there etc. Some at least will be Bloody Miniatures. Many of the horses are Perry WoTR draught horses.

They really have a superb hold, the unit will look very nice and very impressive on a gaming table.  ;)

They'll never make it to the gaming table. I'm a collector and I don't game.

Well, it shows what I know! Brian tells me that the riders are mainly Empress TYW (ex Bohemian Troops) with TAG boots. The horses are indeed Perry WotR draught horses with TAG pistol holsters.

Exceptional  :-*

We should try it some time, Paul  ;)

And despite what Brian says, I think I recognise at least a couple of Bloody cuirassier torsos and legs under there, post Brian's tender ministrations.

Thanks, Richard. Brian has made a unit using just Bloody Miniatures cuirassier figures which I'll be sending off to Andrew at some stage.

Oh man, I cannot wait to see those! Paul, your TYW stuff has easily been my favourite "army" since the heady says of the Steve Dean forum (when it was an actual forum) :)

Darrell: many thanks. With the Bloody Miniatures cuirassiers, we went, for once, for figures in combat poses. Brian did two little units, each of about a dozen figures. One is cuirassiers in 3/4 armour and the other is heavy cavalry in helmets, breast and back plates with buff coats. I wanted them to be in a melee, cuirassiers against the rest, but my main problem was finding enough horses in the right poses without too much duplication. I spent quite a lot of time looking around last year at what is available. My conclusion was that there are some perfect horses around, mainly from Warlord, but I couldn't find enough different ones, and so put the project on hold. I came across some horses from Reconquista Designs which I thought were great, but they were resin and just too fragile - they looked like they would break just by looking at them.
