Hairfoot Jousting.
« on: March 04, 2025, 06:58:34 PM »
Check this out, coming from Osprey Games and Joseph McCullough in May.

While the Hairfoot halflings typically prefer eating and drinking to strenuous exercise, one thing that is sure to stir them from their armchairs is the noble sport of Hairfoot Jousting. Small teams take to the field on the backs of various unruly mounts – pigs, turkeys, sheep, and more – to tilt against their rivals, striving to knock them to the ground with their blunt lances. For the victors: fame, glory, and perhaps a new pair of gardening gloves. For the defeated team… well, everyone loves an underdog!

Hairfoot Jousting is a quick and simple tabletop miniatures game in which players seek to lead their teams of three to victory in tournaments or over the course of a season. Play on some of the most famous pitches to grace the sport, such as Baker's Run, The Puddles, and Barrel Bottom, each with their own special challenges. Point your jousters in the direction of their opponents and hope their mounts don't have their own ideas! In Hairfoot Jousting, sportsmanship and a sense of humour are as valuable as skill or luck – after all, it's joust a bit of fun.

North Star will be doing the various mounted Halflings you'll need to play Hairfoot Jousting. They are looking great, we're giving a first glimpse of them later this week in our newsletter. You wait ages for a halfling jousting game to arrive and then two turn up at once. Will be interesting to see how this compares to Half Tilt (which I am a huge fan of).

There is already a halfling Joust game out called half-tilt by TT Combat.
Large numbers of figures and on my radar to get. However, this
looks fun too.

Hahaha, it's amazing that there is already a game with the theme. Crazy to think about how many subgenres and micro settings are covered by rules.

Half Tilt only came out about 6 months ago, but there was a biggish kickstarter campaign before that. The rules for Hairfoot Jousting seem to be considerably more involved, certainly the campaign system is. Which set of rules is best for you is, of course, a matter of personal preference.

I'll definitely be getting the rules (I'm a sucker for anything halfling-related), not sure I need to add more figures to the unpainted hobbit pile right now.

Sounds fun. Ridiculously weird that two of the same idea came out within 6 months of each other...  lol

I wonder if there was a thread on the internet or game at a convention that both were inspired by?

...and not a single game designer ever thought, 'What if we put a goblin in this jousting game...'

This is just more proof of anti-goblin sentiment.  Bunch of anti-goblinites, if you ask me.  Everybody knows, a halfling is just a fat goblin.  That's less green.  And fatter.  And those hairy feet.  Guh.

Unless ... I can just make goblin jousters and use the rules for halfling jousters.  Waitaminute...

That reminds me of the scene in Labyrinth with the goblin riders tormenting Ludo  lol

Could be fun to have Orcs, Goblins, Elves and other do jousting too.
Be a great tournament.

Very different style for the minis for the two games, it looks like.  For Hairfoot Jousting, the minis appear to be local villagers having a go.  For Half Tilt, they are essentially halfling Bretonnian figures.  Very different flavor, but look to be nice figures in both sets.  If the Half-Tilt range offered foot version of some of those minis, I would absolutely buy a few for NPCs in my next fantasy RPG.

Not sure I would play these games but the NorthStar hobbit jousters look like they would be fun to paint.

The non-Half Tilt versions of the TTCombat minis are on a different website (for some reason best known to them). Try maxminishop.com, there are a few halfling foot knights but not exact equivalents of the Half Tilt mounted ones.

Just to clarify, I am in no way affiliated with TTCombat/MaxMini, just a fan of their work. They're responsible for a significant proportion of the unpainted hobbit pile.
