Colonel Bills Elizabethan Border Reivers
« on: 04 March 2025, 11:09:08 PM »
Over on the facey book place, Colonel Bills posted their new Border Reivers figures. I asked how they compared to other ranges and they very kindly sent me a couple of samples. The photo is awful, but does the job. The minis are lovely cv and match nicely to my eye. Will be getting more.

Interestingly these look a lot like the ex-Vendel reivers by Colin Patten, which I have a fair few of from about 15 years ago. Think that range has changed hands a couple of times since then.
These look very similar. I wonder if they’re Patten sculpts. Some of them have the trademark absence of neck, where the head joins straight on to hunched shoulders. Bit weird I’ve always thought, although I do like a lot of his figures.

I believe these are Colin Patten sculpts. I got a sample unit after the much missed Stuart Insch mentioned them. Have just placed a second larger order.
The figures are typical Patten sculpts. Large details and easy to paint. Very clean castings too. The range could maybe do with more variety in the pikemen.

I can't say if they are "Colin Patten sculpts" but having bought some last year I can confirm that the Colonel Bills are a perfect match size and stylistically for the old Vendel figures.
