German Great War Postcards (Pic Hvy)
« on: December 08, 2009, 09:35:26 PM »
Hope this hasn't been posted here before, but while idly browsing the web I just across this rather interesting collection of postcards...

http://www.allworldwars.com/German-World-War-I-Postcards-Part-I.html

Two pages of real interesting pics there. A few particular favourites...

My kind of thing. Kiel, eh? Is that Björn's Great-Grandad slacking off there at the back?

One for former user, the Prof, and all the other steamheads.

Kronprinz Wilhelm feels a right twit when he realises he missed the memo about "Pointy Hat Friday."

An old pal of Ostafrika fans.

German postcard writer fails to comprehend the subtleties of British geography and politics (with hilarious results).

They've got him seriously outgunned. He'd better hope that nobody points this out to them.

Russian mobile protection shield. Now this seems to me like quite a good idea. You wonder why it didn't catch on, until you imagine yourself trying to push it across no-man's land in the pouring rain in November.

'Nother one for former user, the Prof and all the steamheads.

Dick Dastardly finally comes up with a practical scheme for stopping that damn pigeon.

German staff enthusiastically examine captured Entente What-The-Butler-Saw machines.

Apparently the only way to make Highlanders even more badass is dropping an Umlaut somewhere in their name. lol

The first thought I had when I saw the last picture was "urinal".  :D

That Russian mobile shield is pretty grim, must have been hard going for a bunch of guys to push that through the mud.

My first thought was that the blokes in the trench might know something that they are not sharing with the lads up on the parapet.

I bought a book of postcards before Christmas.  They are taken from both sides, it is called "Postcards from the trenchs" It is published by the Bodleian Library, University of Oxford in 2008 if anyone is interested in hunting it down.
