Last Days game report! (with pictures)
« on: May 06, 2025, 02:54:59 PM »
Yesterday we played our first proper Last Days game (Osprey rules). It has some interesting mechanics with unpredictable Out of Ammo and Noise generating zombies. Also, the Shooting And CQC are separate phases in the Turn.

We played a Standard scenario. 5 Supply Tokens scattered over the trailer park with vital resources. Zombies are more of a complication and added threat in these rules than the main thing.

I have a group of 5 survivors, a former janitor as the leader with a nurse trainee, a fire fighter, a bouncer and a survivalist.

My opponent had a group of 4 better equipped people. A former clerk as a leader with a hooligan and two survivors (I believe).

Early in the game my very reliable fire fighter eliminated one of his survivors with a blast from his pump action shotgun, bagged one of the Supply markets, shot the hooligan to bits and dragged the loot to safety!

My survivalist also managed to secure some loot, nearly crippling one of his survivors with a shot from her highly modified and hand loaded rifle.

My bouncer got badly injured by shots from his leader's assault rifle but grit his teeth and tried to bag some loot. Only to be delayed by zombies and shot in the back later on by the opposing leader! Falling in the line of duty.

My leader did well, he shot some zombies and managed to secure a third loot crate for my team.

My trainee nurse played cautiously. She shot a couple of zombies but I decided it was better for her to survive so she bailed out, ready to assist with wounded if needed.

MVP went to my opponent's survivor who, despite being injured (taken 2 out of 3 Wounds) and beset by gunfire and zombies refused to give up on the crate of loot he was dragging. Heroically managing to pull it off.

In the end, after some nail-biting final actions with zombies trying to eat him, my opponent's leader managed to take them out and secure the final crate.

Post game all three OOA's made a full recovery. His group got a survivor with the skill Gunfighter and one who increased their Endurance.

My leader got the skill Double Tap. My fire fighter got +1 Endurance, my nurse got +1 Strength.

My opponent got some Scavenge Points and Climbing Gear and a Fire Bomb.

I got some Scavenge Points, a Military SMG, a Revolver, a Hunting Rifle and a Scope.

We will have to check for Zombie Assault pre next game and do the job allocations.

Exciting and fun game.

That's different...a 1 vs. 1 zombie game with both playing humans. Most zombie games (at least recent ones) tend to be cooperative. But hey, if it was fun, then it's a good game!  :)

Last Days is quite different from most other zombie games - you are competing against other survivor groups (in the best traditions of The Walking Dead) for survival and the zombies are a shared hazard rather than the opposing force. It can make for some very interesting situations and tactical thinking in your play style - how can I use the zeds against my opponent or just how much noise can I afford to make in taking my opponent out and grabbing the loot before the zeds get too plentiful. It's an interesting game.

The sequel book for Last Days, Seasons, provides rules for player vs zombies solo games, and a few cooperative scenarios, where the players have a common interest in fighting the zeds, at least temporarily. Lots of options!

Indeed sir!

Quite different type of game but very enjoyable and interesting mechanics and tactical options.

And as you say, if it's fun it's all good  ;).

Quite right sir!

We've only played two games so far, including the first practice game.

We both enjoyed the game and as you say, it makes for some very interesting and exciting decisions. My opponent mentioned that if we do another campaign, Bows and Crossbows will be something he'd consider  lol.

So far, we've managed to get "full recovery " on our injured but having a survivor with First Aid and/ or Bandages is something I think is very well worth considering.  I know my dice rolling skills...

We have only played two games so far but are considering mixing it up with Seasons, which I also have, for our next game as we now have "gotten the hang of the rules"  lol.

Interesting with groups fighting each other AND the Zeds.  Nice report.  Can the groups help each other, should, for some reason, they wish to?

And as you say, if it's fun it's all good  ;).

Yeah - it's all fun and games until a zombie bites you... ;)

I think the premises are very much "a damn you the lot who's not on my team "  lol

The dwindling serviceable resources and functioning equipment, I guess, are scarce and there's simply not enough to go around, which makes each leader try to "feed" their own community as best as they can. Anyone else are seen as a potential threat.

That's the way I look at this game. Because, it wouldn't be much if a game if the sides just strolled around the table, "may i please pick up this resource?", "But of course! Just mind out for those slow moving zombies that are lurking here", with no action, no extra zombie spawns... that would be a so much nicer post apocalypse but a very boring uninteresting game...

Legionnaire.

We'll be having game 3 in about a weeks time.
