Punic Wars Project (updated 3.8.25)
« on: May 14, 2025, 08:19:57 AM »
Over the last couple of weeks I've been working on some 15mm Republican Romans from Museum miniatures. The aim is to eventually fight some of the battles mainly in the Italian peninsula, so eventually, Carthaginians, Numidians, Italians and Paul's will be added. The basing is deliberately generic so I can try out different rulesets.

Looking sharp.  The black shields is a bold choice.  If your allies (or enemies) are more colorful, it should contrast nicely.

When I get around to the Gauls, they will definitely be more colourful

As I had obtained a couple of the free sprues of Warlords Epic scale Gallic warband, I decided to make use of the cavalry, the infantry looked a little too small compared to the rest of my figures. As I had painted up a large number of the ECW cavalry in the past and found them compatible with some 15mm ranges, I had assumed these would be the same. Unfortunately they are on the small side, which is a shame as they are much improved on the ECW ranges. However they will do for now on their own bases. I'll replace them once I get everything else done.

I managed to complete 4 bases of Tarantine light cavalry, these are from the older Museum Miniatures range. Nice and easy to paint up. I kept to a simple design for the shields. I can use these as mercenaries/allies for both the Romans and Carthaginians.

Completed some Italian infantry as allies for the Carthaginians. They are a mix of Essex and Museum miniatures. I deliberately kept the shield designs simple. I also added a unit of Hastati I needed to complete an allied legion, these are the 3d Prints from Cromarty forge. There is also the Cavalry element as a start to a second allied legion that I'll need.

Those all look excellent! I like the colour palette you are using, it’s a pleasant change from the usual red and linen.

Finally managed to finish some bases of Gallic infantry. These are the 3d resin Cromarty forge figures from the Plastic soldier company. Lovely figure which didn't take much cleaning up. Some great detail on the shields, a shame my poor eyesight didn't do them justice.

It feels like it's been a while, but I finally managed to complete a couple more bases of Gauls. These are 3d figures from Cromarty forge and their ancient Britons range. These will add even more variety to my Gauls

It has been a while, but I finally returned to this project. I had picked these resin 3d printed Numidian cavalry from Cromarty forge. Pretty quick and simple to paint up. I will definitely need more of these as the project expands.
