Warlord discontinuing 2000ad range
« on: 24 May 2025, 12:02:41 PM »
Anybody else get the email? :-[

Short version, they aren't renewing the license with Rebellion, so all Dredd, ABC Warriors and Slaine products are being fire-saled.
Should have seen it coming since they stopped restocking antsy Strontium Dog figures a while back.

 Had that email Yesterday.

Not very good news for people who were hoping to see the Rogue Trooper miniatures and game.

Sure they also had another set of ABC Warriors figures ready awhile ago.

Still a few sets from each of the ranges that i still need to get.

Thats a real shame, the 2000ad/rebellion ranges have had a very checquered history of being released and dropped by various companies over the years. Would have been nice to see some continuity.

Well this is no real surprise is it, unfortunately  >:(

Just a part of Warlords normal operation, of support the main bolt action game and a few others and short support the rest until their demise.

It's the same model GW used and still uses for non-core games  :? :-[

Not saying it's right though, nope!

Are you sure it's Warlord ending things?
Could equally be that the licensors don't want to renew or have got greedy or have had a better offer elsewhere.

In addition, the value of "secondary" games comes for businesses the size of GW/Warlord in the initial release. After that they have ever diminishing ROI and ongoing sakes seldom justify retaining the ranges or creating new products. That's bad news for hardcore fans, who want more "support" and releases, but they are a minority of customers and it doesn't make much business sense (at the GW/Warlord scale) to continue to service those small numbers if anything retaining the inventory or investing in new product lines becomes a cost, rather than a money maker for them.

Unfortunately, that may say something about the market for this product.

I hope the game survives ala Mordheim. It would be nice to get stats for proxy models down the line. And the 3D sculptors may be less restricted - there are some nice Fatties out there, but I’d love someone to do proper world Judges - BritCit, Sov Blok, Oz - the generic ones papiskeils does are not bad, but purposely different to a level that skullforge doesn’t have an issue with with the not-Star Wars stuff.

Mongoose and Wargames Atlantic are taking over the 2000AD lines.

So no panic. But buy the fire sale from WG if you need stuff.

"Wargames Atlantic will be developing a full range of multipart 28mm hard plastic miniatures designed to capture the essence of the 2300AD universe—from planetary explorers and colonial troops to alien species and frontier civilians. These miniatures will be ideal for RPG campaigns, tabletop wargaming, and collectors alike."

Are 2000AD and 2300AD the same thing? I thought 2300AD was one of the Traveller settings, or maybe a Twilight 2000 -in -space setting. I could be completely mistaken, though, as they’re all games/ intellectual property that I only know in passing.

You're right, 2300AD is a Traveller game and nothing to do with the 2000AD/rebellion lines. And right again, 2300AD is a continuation of the Twilight 2000 timeline, 300 years into the future.

One of the vendors at Salute said Warlord were going to be losing the license, in an ‘oops did I say that’ way. It’s a shame as the sculpts are really good (especially some in the Slaine range). Hopefully someone else will pick up the license, or maybe some ‘not-‘ ranges will expand a bit like happened with Doctor Who when that went up in a puff of smoke.

Same approach Warlord took with their Dr Who game.

!: Grab a big name licence.
2: Release a game and some nice miniatures.
3: Assume that the licence will be enough to make it sell.
4: When the licence isn't enough by itself, panic and half-ass the ongoing support.
5: Eventually, drop the licence so you can concentrate on stuff that sells with no effort.

Real shame. Miniatures were great, but the way Warlord released them sucked.

And their terminator game. And that zombie game they made to make use of the wargames factory sculpts. And mythic America. And test of honour. And SPQR. And gates of Antares. And erewhon.

I've heard a few people say they won't buy into a new warlord system because it'll be gone again in a few years.

Yeah, for those who've forgotten Mongoose already did (and unceremoniously dropped) a Judge Dredd game years ago.  There's no way they're going back to that well.  And if we're honest about it, their track record with minis game support is even worse than Warlord's, so it's for the best that Wargames Atlantic is not only handling the minis for 2300, they don't seem to be tying them to the license and plan to make them generic enough to be useful in other RPGs, Stargrave, Stargrunt, etc.  That ought to keep them alive even if Mongoose randomly flakes the way they've done so many times in the past.
