Scooby Doo UPDATE! New large mansion build
« on: May 29, 2025, 06:39:05 PM »
Grandkids saw my Heroclix Scooby figures, and 1/43 mystery machine. (New Heroclix are HUGE, 40MM AT LEAST!)

SO...building a mystery castle (Egyptian themed, asI have some 40mm mummies and characters).

Probably leave it Heroclix style combat, but gotta include clues and a mystery.   Any rules suggestions?

Or will it be "The Sword and the Scooby"? (TSATF)

Sounds fun

Fistful of Lead or Pulp Alley seem good candidates

Fear and Faith would work. It even has a supplement that is Scooby Doo.
Also, easy rules for kids to pick up.

Pulp Alley definitely.  I’m pretty sure that someone actually made up game stats for the gang.

Lol, yes, because I got bags of individually wrapped "scooby" Gummi things at Dolluh Tree

That'll be ammunition supply.   Ear your scooby snack or turn it over for firing.

Gets kids everything!   LAFs own Nick Nascatti gave me that idea years ago at a convention, m and ms as your ammo.

Adults were stealing candy from eachother, lol

BTW, granddaughter Auburn, the girl in question.  Graduating 6th grade tomorrow (just like Jethro)

I'll show you my first 40mm build for this.  A cool haunted Egyptian tower, but I can send photo till hurricane base ball game over

For Scooby and the Gang meet Im Ho Tep,   a 4 story Egyptian/Dessert Tower, and the front of the main mansion part, which will be three stories.  Kinda large, as the Heroclix figs are huge 40mm plus base.

The mansion is on a small rock facing (not carved yet) and the floor gives way to underground tomb and crypt.

Is there supposed to be a photo of the build?  Or are we to imagine it?  ;)

Have you considered Scooby and the Gang meeting Bubba Hotep? It would be groovy.

Ah, and there it is.  Looking forward to seeing more.  And, yeah, that is a big build.

Yeah, there have been some issues here on LAF.  And also the internet is getting a bit wobbly in some ways.  I wonder how much of it relates to people de-googling?  Apparently google is down 10% in usage and sliding.  Not sure that is a bad thing.  Their AI, from what I have seen, is total crap, just plain and simple plagiarizing, usually the first 'legitimate' reference copied literally word for word.  Maybe that is a cause and effect, AI shite leads to less use which leads to further decline.  One of my blogs is getting whacked by a bunch of Vietnam visits that I am sure are suspect behavior so blogs are loosing their luster as well.  My whole blogging enthusiasm has more or less tanked to a very low level, not yet abandoned but way down.  Real life is better anyway.

Email, a few hobby forums and then most of the internet is a wasteful time suck.  A book is better.  Or painting - which is where I am going now!   ;)

Edit later: on rules I'd go with Fistful of Lead because the Task Roll option gives so much latitude of action and is a super simple mechanism, the 'hardest' part is deciding if it is easy, medium, or hard and assigning a die roll to succeed or fail (which the rules lay out or you can adjust to your liking).  You want a "hero" to swing out a window and along a ledge and jump through the next window and surprise his/her opponent?  I'd make it a hard role and require an 8 or better on a d10 but I'd bet only a d12 level character would have enough bravado for such an attempt - so roll that d12 and 8 or better and it works, almost a 42% chance to make it.  Medium roll, back to the starting point with no harm-no foul, low roll and have a wee splat on the sidewalk below.  That simple.  And that wide open - literally thousands of options at the least.  Only limitation is imagination itself.
