Xth Legion
« on: 04 June 2025, 02:07:16 PM »
Rummaging through my 15mm metal pile I found some miniatures that I used to buy. They are the Xth Legion Carthaginian’s. Looking at them again years later they are great minis and excellent quality castings. Does anybody know what happened to them?

Mark, I had some Xth Legion figures back in the 1990s and seeing your post did some googling. According to an exchange on TMP back in 2006 it appears they ceased production and trading and reading between the lines the moulds were lost.

Thanks for the update on them. I feared that they had vanished in the mists of time. Some of the packs I have were from Xth legion themselves, others I have were sold via a third party that also no longer exist. I think I will give them a clean up and paint them up as a reminder of how nice they were

My figures were Xth Legions own. I think that later they were sold by Gladiator Games.

I bought some Xth Legion from ebay. Carthaginians and Gauls. Lovely figures with separate cast spears and shields. Very elegant sculpts.

From memory there was a big fall out between designer and retailer that ended with the molds being destroyed by one of the aggrieved parties. All a very long time ago.

I have some Gladiator packs in my collection that I opened this evening. I am going to drop them in white spirit to clean them up before painting. I will post some pics as I feel they need their place in 90s miniature ranges that are no longer available

By the way if your are cleaning pre-painted figures I can recommend dettol.  I've used it recently and it cuts through varnish and paint brilliantly.

Real pity they are no longer available, gorgeous figures by Steve Salah. I have a roman army's worth I bought from him at the time still on my to do list !

Only criticism were the fiddly separate spears.

Did Steve ever finish the range of the Romans?

I'm fairly sure I still have a xth legion catalogue somewhere but that would take some finding !!

Not sure if the Romans were finished, but there was command and I "think" all 4 line types, ie hastati etc. But don't quote me.

Xth legion were sculpted by Steve Saleh and sold by gladiator games under license.  At the point I bought gladiator games Steve had joined games workshop and had taken back the rights and had asked gladiator to destroy the moulds.

There was no falling out or a row…

If these are what I think they are then I had a few back in another life but at the time I thought them way too big. Today they would probably fit right in, plus I always like a kneeling triarii.

I used a couple for DBA camp guards.

Bit of a shame when good works like this are destroyed or lost.

They look really good, better than the Essex miniatures I thought. Ahead of their time.
