The wood stirs are good for making spoke wheels and such for wagons.  :-)

how comes that fencing (the thing about separating open spaces) is the same word used for the swashbuckling sport with the blades?

Hehe already have a load of these coffee stirrers made up as fences just need to get some balsa for posts.. Got all mine from that hell hole known as IKEA just shoved a load in a handbag...   ;)

I may look in a chemist for tongue depressers, they may be the big lolly sticks I'm looking for.......

Rymans the Stationers sell the big lollipop sticks/tongue depressers in packs of 50 for £1.49.  They also sell the small lolly sticks.

The dollar stores out here in the northwest USA all seem to carry fairly large bags of wooden sticks in a number of sizes for a dollar.

Popscicle sticks are 2xs thickness of coffee stir sticks and much wider. To get the stir sticks to a scale width for fence slats or boards, you may have to split them. I used thin styren plastic sheeting cut thin and then assembled my fencing. Long sections, short sections and knocked down sections. Heres a link to a standing section
