SYW Hessian Reinforcements
« on: June 19, 2025, 02:42:21 PM »
The SYW mobilisation continues here at Fawr Towers with some Hesse-Cassel reinforcements.  I've still got a few infantry regiments left to do, but I'm calling the cavalry finished:

Lovely!  :-* :-* :-*
And the glorious general led the advance
With a glorious swish of his sword and his lance
And a glorious clank of his tin-plated pants. - Dr. Seuss

Lovely additions to what must be a humungous collection by now...

Any chance of an invite to Jemima Fawr Towers at some point, or possibly some photos of your collection perhaps taken by a drone at a suitable height to fit them all in  lol

Nonsense!  It's a very modest, average-sized collection, possibly on the small side, to be honest...    :-X

And if anyone says anything different to Mrs Fawr, there will be trouble...  >:(

According to my SYW spreadsheet, I'm now up to 237 infantry battalions, 31 grenadier battalions, 47 units of horse/cuirassiers, 31 units of dragoons, 21 units of hussars, 58 skirmisher stands, 79 guns & crew and a gaggle of generals, casualty-figures and hangers-on...  (a battalion or cavalry 'unit' being 12-16 figures - a 'unit' might be a regiment, part of a very large regiment or a brigaded group of small regiments)

And now we know why the tin deposits and lead mines of Cornwall and Wales were exhausted. Sounds like enough figures to fill the Menai Strait. :o :o :o

You know Portmeirion would make the perfect wargaming holiday location. Just sayin'.

Nice work on the Hessians. You need to do a series of games involving them and call it 'The Sandbaggers'.  ;)

...or possibly some satelite imagery as your modest average-sized collection is surely visible from space  lol

Note made of future blog post-title...  :D

Anyway, Portmeirion?!  For starters, that's where the Gogs are and if you think they're hard on the English, you should hear what they say about us...  :o  Anyway, we don't need no steenking fake Italian village when this the Wargames Association of South Pembrokeshire clubhouse...  8)

Impressive looking structure. Bit worried about the hill it sits atop. Seems to be displaying signs of ring worm. A topical cream should fix that.  :D

I only suggest Portmeirion for its advanced security features. No bugger losing a game has the option of decamping early and nobody can skip their bar tab. A very large and agressive bit of bubblegum will see to that. Thankfully, Patrick McGoohan is no longer around to chew the scenery.

My great granny was one of those 'gogs' from just across the bay. A somewhat intimidating woman to a small child with a very high, nasal, Welsh accent. Gave birth to ten offspring, lived to a 100 and had a perverse taste for Bristol Cream sherry.

It's worse than ringworm.  It's suffering from a nasty case of golf.

Anyway, we don't need Rover when we have Dock Girls.  Just as big as Rover and with considerably more life-sucking capability.

I'm disappointed that you didn't fall for my cunning trap...  :(

I've circled our club in this version... ;)
