28 Weeks is part of it, the blurb at the start says the virus was pushed back into Britain and then contained. They may not have liked what Weeks did, but they acknowledge it and wave it away at the start as having been wiped out on the mainland at somepoint in the intervening years.

The reviews I read of it were awful. I was all set to watch it, but now it has fallen back in the queue of things I'm hoping to find time to watch.

I think that, for many viewers, it wasn't what they were expecting after being told it was the world 28 years after '28 days' - I think a lot of people expected more of the same and were disappointed when it turned out to be different.
