My Epic Revolution box
« on: June 27, 2025, 08:31:35 AM »
I picked my battle box up at a local show and I have just put some initial thoughts down as to what I will do with it over on the blog.

box art reminds me of those old letraset (?) transfer books you used to be able to get in the '70s etc (maybe you still can).

Thanks for doing the review. An interesting read. I have quite decent sized forces in 28mm so I am not interesting in buying the set but if I was starting again this is the way I would go as it looks really good.

I did buy the rules which I have yet to peruse. I used to game with BP version 1 a few years ago, but got fed up with them, probably for the reasons you describe, but thought I would try BP2.

I found Rebels and Patriots too heavy on casualties as it is written to cover ACW so had to modify it to get it to work.

I have been following a blogger who uses Rebels & Patriots and they have persistent problems with British attackers losing too many casualties and causing attacks to stall.

R&P is designed to cover the entire black powder period. The heavy losses are a feature of the quick play. An earlier colonial ruleset from this stable, The Men Who Would be KIng, was even bloodier. If I recall correctly, it takes two hits to cause a casualty in R&P, while one hit does the trick in MWWBK.

I haven't done this, but perhaps require an additional hit to remove a figure and see if that unbalances the whole thing.

With a glorious swish of his sword and his lance
And a glorious clank of his tin-plated pants. - Dr. Seuss

Thank you for the breakdown, it is always good to see the process of how someone picks out alternate rules to consider since I think I will be in the same boat.

That box cover reminds me of a Marx kit or a circus poster. Not appealing to me at all.

Yes, it looks a bit retro like an ad from a 50 year old comic book.

Bingo! That's exactly what came to my mind as well.

yes... that's it. Wonder why they went for that style, if it was indeed a conscious decision.

At least the figures aren't flat plastic, like the ones in that long-ago ad turned out to be.

Those books were one of my introductions to history. They were called Action Transfer books I think. I had as many as I could get. I really remember Charge of the Light Brigade and D-Day.
