Those books were one of my introductions to history. They were called Action Transfer books I think. I had as many as I could get. I really remember Charge of the Light Brigade and D-Day.

I really like the idea of the Warlord Epic scale and I've bought the ACW, Napoleonic and Pike&shott boxes.

as long as you kept the smaller figures in the back and the larger figures at the front.

I hope you have fun with the Epics.

I'm only starting out on AWI, but I've read some criticism of that Illustrated Encyclopedia book. Apparently they made some stuff up. Depends how bothered you are of course; I love the look of 1768 warrant, so that's what I've gone for so far, even though it was discarded quite early on (on the ships over in some cases). If you want an alternative, the John Mollo book tends to be well-regarded.

I’m sure they will look good at normal gaming distance when painted up. I have just added another couple of units to my ACW Epic collection.
