Just received and read in just one night that very interesting book …I have, in my library, practically every possible source for the Pontifical Army campaigns from 1860 to 1867 but this book, published in 1929 , who relates the story of the Irish Volunteers in Pontifical Service during the Central Italy Campaign of 1860 , culminating with the Battle of Calstelfidardo , was the only one I couldn’t find since decades of hunting …until today as it enjoy a recent and well made reprint ..I bought it trough Amazon it ..so it should be easy to purchase also in other countries
Those Irish volunteers fought with valour and participated, at company level , in various small battles so, if you want to game with those beautifully uniformed minis of Saint Patrick Battaillon produced by Gringo and also , recently, by Shako 64 ,
, you connot avoid that essential reading. For wargame purposes it’s interesting to note that the Irish volunteers were confronted mainly, during their skirmishes, by the the Piedmontese Bersaglieri ..another iconic kind of uniform
