18mm Scratchbuilt Mechanicus Exploratory Survey Vehicle
« on: July 28, 2025, 12:22:48 PM »
Hello again all,
Here is another Scratchbuilt Vehicle.
Designed in Lightburn ( this is a great & relatively simple design program ).
There should be a free download & for sure one can find people who do laser cutting online.

So go ahead & design.
Note , You don't need to know how to draw but you do need to plan & calculate dimensions as everything must fit properly.

Laser cut in old HP Ohp transparency box card ( Ohp is dark age technology by today's standards 😉)
Tracks are my usual PC old IDE cables.

The mechanicus mini is scratchbuilt also.

Quite like how this came out. Notice the slots that help assemble everything.

Thanks for your comments.

Oh I like that - it's a cross between a Jawa sandcrawler and a Winnebago. Jawabago?  lol lol

Joking aside it's a great model, nice and big for the cogboys and the skitarii.

A Jawabago STC ?
Good one ..... I like that  :D :D :D

And it might sound something like this when loading up.... ( going from one classic film to another )
Music to the Gearheads sound pickups... ;)

Just think - that was cutting edge computer technology when the film was made!

Indeed Rick.
Shows artistic skill vs Cgi or AI.
Must have watched the film 3 or 4 times.. though my favourite is Aliens the extended version.

Thank you all for the comments.

I honestly do not know whether I'll leave the windows open or use some form of clear plastic.

And since one is not enough I had to do 2 more  ;) ... so as to have a GearHead exploratory convoy.
Loads of 3d printed minis done also....

Thanks Freddy.

Here's another update.
An inbuilt Gearhead 3D printed jockey / pilot. Pity it isn't that visible once installed

Amazing stuff Z! Those vehicles are beautiful. The number of minis I’ve over enthusiastically added detail to only to then realise that it’ll be covered or very hard to see in the end product (my WW2 15mm 251’s have some internal details that took ages but look like everyone else on the tabletop  lol )
