I'm more of a bottled beer man myself. No special favourites. It depends what's behind the bar. Yesterday it was San Miguel. The one before Poretti

That's the man! I'm an imported or craft beer guy (who happens to despise the trend of over-hopped IPAs). The greatest beer in the world, IMO, is Samuel Smith's Nut Brown Ale. Second best is Old Speckled Hen. I love me a brown, English Mild, ESB, Altbier, etc.

You da man!  Totally agreed. Your countrymen have much to answer for, all those revolting faux IPAs to start with. That shite now dominates world beer markets.  If I want my beer to taste like Harpic then I can do it myself. On those rare occasions when I'm in a pub nowadays I'll ask for the 'least hipsterish' beer they have on tap. In winter I just drink Guiness.

I imbibe infrequently these days. There's an unopened bottle of Balvenie that's been staring at me for years. In summer I'll pour myself a glass of Lillet or Pimms and every now and again I'll crack open the Nêga Fulô for old time's sake. It's too good to make caipirinhas with. The one thing I do miss in this season is Cravinho, I'm down to my last third of a bottle.

None of this is even remotely cool. However when my wife and I lived in a little street off Largo 2 de Julho iin Salvador, there was a pé sujo* bar run by a very imposing black woman of indeterminate age (probably 70 +) who would produce plastic coke bottles of clear rocket fuel, presumably brewed on the premises or not far from. Devastating stuff. Adding a little lime juice and honey would make you impervious to typhoid. Tippled straight it took the lining off your oesophagus. That was super fucking cool.

*Dirty foot. A tiny dive bar, in this case in the front room of a run down house.

When out and about for a walk on the hills I like to brew myself a wild, herbal, tea.
My current favourite is nettle and wild majoram. I always take a small camping stove with me (can't abide stewed tea from a flask), and then put a few leaves/flower heads in the mug and pour on the hot water and let it brew for a few minutes.
Lots of mugwort around now as well, and the flower heads on that make a nice brew. Not too many though because it can be quite bitter (mugwort was used in middle ages to add bitterness to beer before hops were introduced).

I need to chill the port before drinking it; right now there's no room in the fridge. Then after it's chilled the whole bottle disappears in an afternoon and I've plowed through a season of anime.

Ah you see you have hit a common Port bottle problem... Port is a drink which evaporates VERY fast. Once opened the liquid just evaporates at an amazing speed, even if the cork is in the bottle. Nothing can be done about this it seems after years of testing. So this means that if you want a drink you but just open another bottle (on a different day of course).

Thats my reasoning for the drastic drop in Port level in open bottles in the house and I'm sticking to it. Not sure the family are convinced with this rational. ;)

Tis' a problem common to most spirits and wines I fear, but never ale (not that larger shite though  :-X) as that tends to be drunk in it's entirety  :D ;).
For me I like any old fashioned proper ales (I am from Kent), Porters long before they became popular again (in the winter) and nicer IPAs and ciders in the summer months when flippin' hot. However, I will never become a member of Camra as erstwhile as that organisation is, because I don't like the pretentiousness that surrounds wine, and I`m leery of it happening to ale lol. If I likes it, I likes it!!!!

I surprised that no one has mentioned the preferred beverage of all good painters, the water in your brush cleaning mug!   lol

Water and coffee for me most days, with kids and such.

I used to be a bit mad for Whiskey of all sorts and had a great deal of bourbon, scotches, whisky and whiskey from around the world, alas I no longer see the friends I used to drink and game with near as much, and a large shelf of glass bottles is not safe from two crazy little girls, so my collection lives in my garage in wine bottle moving boxes.
