« on: 20 September 2025, 08:48:17 AM »
Feeling quite nostalgic for several reasons of late and wanted to return to my first love as a kid, Airfix figures.

Here's the first of them

On the lookout for 10mm Magister Militum Fantasy figures, halflings and woodelves in particular

The heads are from the paratrooper range and the smock is made from green stuff

I still need to add the additional webbing pieces but I was hoping to track down a airfix multipose kit rather than sculpt it all. I'd also like to find a 1/32 burgen or two

I wonder how many of us here started this whole thing with these Airfix kits.

Me for one.
My first Wargames army was based on EIGHT boxes of the Roman Army set, backed up
by lots of converts from:- Robin Hood,  US Cavalry,  etc.
Must have been around 1966.  :o :o :o When I was eleven.

Good work, hadn't realised it was a conversion.

There is (was) a box of British Airborne, back in the day I think I even painted some of them. I think the only FJ I painted was the officer.

After a quick google the Para set has a walking Bren gunner, I thought there was a kneeling one as well, but I might be thinking of one of the other sets, or even scales...

K, you in good old Blighty? If you are, I think, I've got some British multi-pose bits kicking about. Want 'em?

There were two nlkneeling Bren guys, in the Commando and Australian sets. Watch this space ;)

I played lots of skirmish games back then using 1/32 Airfix and the Donald Featherstone Skirmish Wargames book. For a long while I saw that Scaletrix as being THE Scaletrix for skirmish. They fought over Britains plastic buildings and ruins made of polystyrene ceiling tiles

I had alot of the old airfix and matchbox stuff

The airfix strongpoint and the cromwell tank were particular favourites I'm hoping they are still stashed away in the family loft, they are a crazy price these days

Here's another example showing the basic conversion approach
