Nice to hear of a new shop opening out there in the 'great beyond'.  Wish them well.

Locally, our oldest and staunchest hobby shop may be in its last months unless a buyer steps up.  Seems early next year they will mark their 50th anniversary and the owners are likely to retire; can't blame them for that, 50 years is a long time to be in one place under one owner (or a married couple actually).  Will be a huge void if lost.  If they do retire, wish them all the best, customer service from the lady involved is legendary.

One of my two FLGS is now 49% board games and 49% Magic the Gathering cards. The remaining 2% is a rapidly shrinking selection of paints and a tiny selection of fantasy figures from the likes of Nolzur's.

I'm sure it will keep going, but I suspect my visits will become much more infrequent.

Good that new ones are opening, best of luck to them

Here in sunny Calgary, we are lucky to have one of (if not THE) largest Wargames shop in the entire world: Sentry Box. Just shy of 14,000 square feet of shop. An old factory, with a mezzanine entrance level, with gaming space; an upper (probably former office space) for historicals only (!!!), the main space is GW, paints, RPGs, novels, many other miniature levels. It’s a staggeringly neat experience to go there. Oh, and they have a separate cards shop next door (thankfully, as the card types were at the low end of hygiene lol).

And then there’s OTHER independent shops: Ogre’s Den, Imaginary Wars (run by an ex-GW staffer); an actual GW store in the big posh mall (with a manager that is one of the longest timers in ALL of GW); and a few others.

Mind you, Calgary is not transit friendly, and is one of the most spread out cities, so most shops are like 20km driving from my hood. Still worth the drive for most.

But good luck to your new shop!

You guys have hobby shops?!

There's a Warhammer store about two hours away from me by bus or train.
