Baggage Elements
« on: 23 December 2009, 09:46:15 PM »
Just wondering how you represent these In the Heart of Africa?

I like the idea of four bases of figures, livestock, luggage etc as mini-dioramas, probably using those GW round plastic bases that I have somewhere.

On the other hand, four individual porter figures would be a lot less work and could be arranged single file for ambush games.

Any suggestions?

I also prefer porters, who can also be spooked into running off leaving most everything behind. Pack animals though for rugged terrain would perhaps make more sense for very hilly areas. No horses, unless a lost city setting? Canoes of course for water borne baggage. Otherwise, doubtful there would be any gas or diesel powered baggage available, unless you might be thinking of sliding into VSF adventure.. :)

Porters for explorers, cattle for Masai and other herder types, slaves for Swahili Arab sorts and Ruga-Ruga. Camels are an option too, I guess (if "The Moutains of the Moon" is accurate in that regard).

Little dioramas are a nice idea in theory (and something I would like to get around to at some point), but at the moment I prefer to individually base them, as the figures are then more versatile, gaming-wise.

I have porters too, but without I prefer small piles, and without visible bases

that way crates and barrels are easier to load on carts, trucks and ships
I also have single pallets for this
some piles are based exactly to fit on trucks or carts

I have tried to arrange bigger piles on round bases of different size, but I found this to be unpractical and changed it
